Job description
Role Overview
William Day Construction Limited is hiring a General Skilled Labourer for its Timmins, Ontario site. This is a permanent, full-time, on-site role in a surface mining environment. Local candidates are preferred, and the position is not camp-based work.
Core Duties
- Carry out routine cleanup and upkeep across surface mine locations such as haul roads, pit floors, shop yards, and equipment staging areas.
- Help install and manage dewatering setups, including submersible and diesel pumps, as well as laying out and collecting discharge hoses of different sizes.
- Provide support to equipment operators, mechanics, and other tradespeople when needed.
- Use small tools and light equipment safely, including pressure washers, pumps, generators, skid steers, and forklifts when certified.
- Assist with fuel, lubrication, and wash bay tasks such as moving fluids, cleaning vehicles, and delivering parts.
- Work in line with all site safety requirements, including PPE use and hazard awareness.
- Take part in toolbox meetings, safety sessions, and any required training.
- Complete logs, checklists, and other required records accurately when needed.
- Handle additional operational duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications and Attributes
- Capable of working without close supervision and able to stay self-driven.
- Prior exposure to packers, rollers, or similar equipment is an advantage.
- Experience in mining, construction, or heavy industry is preferred.
- Must hold at least a valid Class G2 driver’s licence with a clean driving record.
- Comfortable working in demanding physical conditions and in all kinds of weather, including heat, cold, and snow.
- Strong awareness of safety practices and mine-site procedures.
- Able to work 12-hour shifts, rotating schedules, and overtime when required.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or previous equipment operation experience is beneficial.
- Able to function well in a team and follow instructions with limited oversight.
Work Conditions
- Outdoor surface mining setting with dust, noise, and regular exposure to changing weather.
- Tasks may involve lifting, shoveling, walking on uneven ground, and using hand tools.
- Day, night, and weekend rotations may be required.
