Role Overview
The General Maintenance Cleaner is responsible for keeping the site clean, safe, sanitary, and in good working order. The role combines routine cleaning with light maintenance, minor repairs, painting, remodeling support, and other hands-on tasks that help maintain a welcoming environment for employees and visitors.
Cleaning Responsibilities
- Carry out sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming in hallways, offices, restrooms, kitchens, and shared spaces at the lower landing.
- Help clean the street-level buildings, including the group booth, ticket plaza, and main administrative office.
- Dust and wipe down furniture, fixtures, windows, and other surfaces.
- Wash and disinfect restrooms, including sinks, toilets, mirrors, and floors.
- Collect garbage, empty bins, and place waste in the proper disposal areas.
- Keep the property free of litter by regularly cleaning the lower landing, tunnel, elevators, ticket plaza, and funicular areas.
- Refill restroom supplies such as soap and toilet paper.
- Maintain carpets and keep them in clean condition.
Maintenance Responsibilities
- Handle basic upkeep work such as changing light bulbs, clearing drains, and tightening loose fixtures.
- Use hand tools and operate larger cleaning equipment when needed.
- Work with equipment such as leaf blowers and pressure washers.
- Report damage, faults, or maintenance concerns to supervisors promptly.
- Support snow removal and winter upkeep of roads and walkways.
- Use a golf cart to transport waste to the appropriate bin.
- Help move ponchos from the warehouse to the site when required.
- Assist with minor troubleshooting and repairs on building systems.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety procedures when using chemicals, tools, and equipment.
- Help maintain a safe work environment for staff and visitors by following health and safety standards.
- Use good housekeeping practices to reduce hazards in the workplace.
- Work with a strong safety focus, including proper use of PPE and adherence to all policies and procedures.
- Identify risks, hazards, and improvement opportunities and raise them appropriately.
- Take an active role in workplace health and safety practices.
Additional Duties
- Carry out scheduled or requested deep-cleaning assignments.
- Support other cleaning and maintenance tasks assigned by the Shift Manager or Manager.
- Stay motivated, show initiative, and remain open to training on different equipment.
- Respond to work orders in a timely and accurate manner, then clean the area once the work is finished.
- Follow training, policies, and procedures to meet quality, environmental, and safety expectations.
- Perform inspections of systems as directed and report unusual activity or maintenance concerns quickly.
- Use logs and checklists to complete work documentation.
- Share corrective and preventive actions with the Shift Manager or Manager, Facilities when operational systems fail or issues arise.
- Cooperate with coworkers to complete projects and prepare work for the next shift.
- Support Marine, Guest Services, Food and Beverage, IT, and other departments as needed.
- Maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance in line with company standards.
- Report to work on time and attend all scheduled shifts.
- Follow the company policies and procedures related to the role.
- Complete any other duties assigned by management.
Requirements and Qualifications
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential recognized by the Ministry of Education.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license, Class G2 or G.
- At least 2 years of experience in facilities and maintenance, preferably in hospitality.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems.
- WHMIS knowledge; training will be provided.
- Understanding of Lock Out Tag Out systems.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Experience with ISO compliance and standards is considered an advantage.
- Availability to work all shifts, including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, move, wipe, and lift up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
- Capable of standing, walking, or sitting for long periods in both indoor and outdoor environments and in all weather conditions.
- Willing to wear required PPE such as non-slip shoes, gloves, and weather-appropriate clothing, including sun protection if needed.
