Job description

Company Overview

WilesRead Landscapes is a New Zealand-based landscape design, build, and garden care business serving high-end residential, commercial, and public projects throughout New Zealand and the wider Pacific region. Its team brings together award-winning landscape architects and designers with more than 70 years of combined experience across work such as swimming pools, educational play areas, retirement villages, and landscapes that incorporate green technology. The company delivers complete project support, covering concept development, detailed design, construction, planting, and ongoing garden and lawn maintenance. It also coordinates consents, engineering, and council planning so clients receive a smooth end-to-end service. The organisation is focused on creating imaginative, innovative, and distinctive outdoor spaces shaped around each site’s individual needs.

Role Summary

This full-time remote Gardener position supports the delivery of garden maintenance and soft landscaping services for WilesRead Landscapes. The role involves day-to-day care of outdoor spaces, helping keep gardens healthy, tidy, and aligned with seasonal requirements and site plans. Work is coordinated remotely while interacting with supervisors, designers, project managers, colleagues, and clients through online tools.

Key Duties

  • Carry out routine garden upkeep, including planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, and lawn maintenance.
  • Follow seasonal calendars and site-specific instructions to keep gardens in strong condition.
  • Support landscape installation work by preparing soil, establishing new planting areas, and assisting with soft landscaping tasks.
  • Install, inspect, or assist with irrigation systems as required.
  • Observe plant condition, identify signs of pests or disease, and apply or recommend treatments according to company standards and local rules.
  • Keep accurate records of completed work and site activities.
  • Work safely and consistently in line with health and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate clearly with supervisors and team members using remote communication methods.

Qualifications and Experience

The role calls for practical gardening ability, familiarity with landscape maintenance, and confidence working across different plant types and outdoor settings. Applicants should be comfortable reading basic landscape plans and planting schedules, have some understanding of irrigation systems, and know how to use and maintain common garden tools and equipment. The work is physically active and may involve changing weather conditions, so safe work habits and good ergonomic awareness are important. Strong self-management, time management, and communication skills are also needed to succeed in a remote working setup. Previous professional experience in gardening, landscaping, or horticulture is preferred, and relevant qualifications or certifications are considered an advantage.
