About the Role
This position is with Pet Valu in Okotoks, Alberta, and sits within a large North American retail network that serves pet families with food and supplies for dogs, cats, birds, fish, reptiles, and small animals. The business also supports local shelters, rescues, charities, adoption events, pet food banks, donation drives, and fundraising efforts. The company describes its team as pet experts and pet lovers.
As a Keyholder, you will help ensure smooth store execution so the team can spend quality time helping customers. The role includes guiding shoppers toward the right products and services, supporting store profitability and growth, and taking responsibility for day-to-day store operations. You will also help represent the store in the surrounding community while working to the company's core principles of Safety, Compassion, Expertise, and Efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Handle cashiering and support customer purchases.
- Prepare merchandise orders, complete banking tasks, and manage other routine paperwork.
- Stock small products under 10 lbs, such as pet and household items, on the sales floor.
- Carry out general maintenance duties like sweeping and dusting.
- Help unload delivery trucks and put cases and bags of pet food and supplies into stock, including items weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Open and close the store correctly by following company procedures.
- When the Store Manager or Assistant Store Manager is unavailable, help set daily priorities and tasks for ACEs.
- Take on other related duties as needed.
What You Need
- Minimum 2 years of experience in retail or customer service.
- Previous experience working with animals.
- Familiarity with point-of-sale systems.
- A friendly, outgoing approach with strong customer service ability.
- Capacity to lift 50 lbs repeatedly.
- Willingness to work a schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.
- Reliable transportation to and from the store.
- A valid driver's license may be required.
