Key duties

The driver will be responsible for delivering products professionally, helping unload trailers, maintaining equipment readiness, and ensuring compliance with food safety, transportation, and company requirements.

  • Operate a tractor-trailer safely and efficiently.
  • Deliver products to customer locations in a timely and courteous manner.
  • Use material handling equipment to unload trailers.
  • Look after the equipment and product assigned to you.
  • Inspect equipment to confirm it is roadworthy, fueled, and ready for dispatch.
  • Secure vehicles and confirm refrigeration units are operating after loading is complete.
  • Connect, stage, and secure vehicles daily according to the route load plan.
  • Complete paperwork and perform daily equipment inspections.
  • Work safely and follow company health and safety rules, including prompt reporting of injuries or incidents.
  • Maintain strong security controls over equipment and the staging/finish area.
  • Follow DOT rules, company policies, and transport regulations.
  • Comply with Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, GFSI, Good Warehouse Practices, and Good Drivers Practices.
  • Take on other related tasks and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications and experience

  • High school education or equivalent experience.
  • 3 to 5 years of driving experience as a licensed Professional Class A/AZ or Class 1 driver.
  • Experience operating 48-foot to 53-foot tractor-trailers.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy boxes weighing up to 55 lbs.
  • Strong work ethic and excellent time management.
  • Team-oriented with good collaboration skills.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • High initiative, self-motivation, and leadership qualities.
  • Must successfully complete a post-offer background check and drug test.

Work schedule and conditions

This position requires flexibility, including weekend work and variable shift start and finish times depending on location and business needs. Work may be scheduled any day from Sunday through Saturday, and any shift may be assigned. Overtime, punctuality, and attendance are essential parts of the role due to delivery schedules, order timing, and hours-of-service rules.
