Job description
About the Company
MAX is building next-generation mobility across Africa and other emerging markets, with a focus on safe, affordable, accessible, and sustainable transportation. The company combines technology, energy infrastructure, and financial innovation to support commercial drivers and transport operators through subscription-based access to vehicles, insurance, digital wallets, and e-hailing solutions.
From a starting point of 200 drivers in 2015, the company has expanded to support more than 55,000 riders, known internally as Champions, across Nigeria, Ghana, and Cameroon, with plans to scale further across the continent.
Vision, Mission, and Values
The organization’s purpose is to improve mobility through technology, financial inclusion, and clean energy solutions. Its work culture is grounded in the following values:
- Transparency: keeping all stakeholders informed and included.
- Integrity: staying consistent and true to commitments.
- Initiative: encouraging bold thinking and innovation.
- Partnership: fostering collaboration and openness.
- Safety: ensuring rides are secure, dependable, and comfortable.
Impact and Growth
The company has helped more than 55,000 riders access income-generating assets through a rent-to-own, pay-as-you-go model. To help riders get started quickly, it also offers a package of support that includes licensing, insurance, health coverage, maintenance, and emergency assistance.
After beginning with low-emission vehicles, the business has shifted fully to electric vehicles and is working toward deploying more than 10,000 EVs across Nigeria and Ghana by 2025. It is also developing solar-powered battery swap stations to allow battery changes in under 3 minutes.
This model is designed not only to support riders’ livelihoods, but also to reduce emissions, lower fuel costs, and cut maintenance expenses.
Funding and Strategic Backing
MAX has raised over $70M from investors and strategic partners including Lightrock, Global Ventures, Yamaha, Mastercard, Shell Foundation, Novastar Ventures, Goodwell Investments, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Techstars, and DLM Capital. In December 2021, the company completed the first close of its $31M Series B round and is now targeting more than $100M in the next 12 months to expand mobility infrastructure and unlock growth across Africa.
