Role overview
The Steel Fitter role is focused on building, aligning, and installing steel parts and structures on marine vessels. The work must follow shipbuilding drawings, technical specifications, and safety rules. The position helps ensure that hulls, decks, bulkheads, and related assemblies are structurally sound, properly fitted, and ready for safe shipbuilding, repair, or conversion work on ships and offshore units.
Responsibilities
- Carry out steel fabrication, fitting, and installation work on marine vessels in line with drawings and job specifications.
- Check that all work follows HSE rules and workplace safety regulations.
- Recognize that safety is mandatory before and during all tasks.
- Maintain awareness of the risks of ignoring safety procedures and act accordingly.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of substantial experience in shipbuilding and ship repair, specifically in steel fitter duties.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and hull standards.
- Experience in quality inspection and ensuring work meets required standards.
