What the Role Involves
The Fire Alarm Inspector is responsible for routine inspections, testing, servicing, and preventive maintenance of electrical, sprinkler, or suppression life-safety systems, including comparable equipment from other manufacturers.
Key Duties
- Handle low-voltage wiring and related devices used to operate low-voltage equipment.
- Prepare service acknowledgements using the correct codes through laptop-based or paper-based communication tools.
- Maintain a strict and organized inspection schedule.
- Record, access, and store inspection documents on a laptop.
- Carry out repairs with limited oversight.
- Train other inspectors and trainees on technical tasks.
- Finish assigned inspections within required timelines.
- Take on other tasks as needed.
Required Qualifications
A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with the ability to clear a criminal background check and maintain a clean driving record.
Preferred Background
- ASTTBC certification is an advantage.
- Experience working with fire protection and/or life-safety systems is preferred.
- Knowledge of how to read blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, schematics, programs, and equipment manuals is valued.
- Familiarity with hand tools and multimeter use is preferred.
- Ability to troubleshoot systems and complete needed repairs.
- Comfort following both spoken and written instructions.
- Working knowledge of PCs, including MS Excel, MS Word, and iPhone applications.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting and carrying tools and equipment up to 40 lbs.
- Willingness to work in challenging positions and environments such as ladders, scaffolding, high lifts up to 40 feet, ducts, crawl spaces, and above ceilings.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends, to meet customer needs.
- Strong customer-service approach.
- Self-directed work style with minimal supervision.
- Commitment to safety policies and procedures at all times.
- Good organization, a positive attitude, and the ability to learn quickly.
- Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company standards.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range for this position is $25 to $29.80, with the final rate determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market alignment. The role includes a competitive benefits package.
