Job description

About the organisation

Southern Cross Health Insurance is working to improve wellbeing across Aotearoa New Zealand. Its aim is to help members live healthier lives for longer by providing timely access to quality care, supporting healthier habits, and contributing to meaningful change in the health system. As a New Zealand-owned, member-focused organisation, it is committed to delivering strong value to members while creating a workplace where people can do their best work.

This is a strong opportunity to join a high-performing team with a people-first culture. The role offers room to grow, contribute meaningfully, and take pride in the impact of your work.

About the role

Southern Cross Health Insurance is seeking a Finance Business Analyst to join its Decision Support team. The position suits an experienced analyst with a solid base in financial planning, reporting, and analysis, and who wants to broaden their exposure into business partnering and more commercially focused work over time.

You will support the Customer Growth portfolio, working across sales, marketing, group communications, and new healthy behaviour initiatives. The team operates collaboratively and values strong analytical thinking, curiosity, and a continuous improvement mindset.

What you'll do

  • Support annual business planning, quarterly forecasting, and monthly management reporting activities.
  • Prepare analysis and reporting that improves financial oversight and helps guide decision-making.
  • Partner with a range of business areas, including sales, marketing, and value streams.
  • Handle ad hoc analysis requests with a careful, inquisitive, and detail-focused approach.
  • Maintain and enhance the data, models, and processes that support reporting.
  • Look for ways to simplify, automate, and reduce manual work across existing processes.
  • Grow into more forward-looking analysis and a broader business partnering pathway as your capability develops.

What we're looking for

We are looking for someone who is energetic, curious, comfortable working with numbers, and motivated to improve how things are done.

  • A relevant qualification such as accounting, commerce, finance, economics, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in a finance analyst or similar role, with sound knowledge of the general ledger, budgeting, and financial planning processes.
  • Practical involvement in budgeting, forecasting, or planning cycles.
  • Strong Excel capability and the ability to use data to identify trends and solve problems.
  • Exposure to sales and marketing functions is advantageous but not essential.
  • Quick learning ability for new systems; familiarity with TechnologyOne, Power BI, or SQL would be an advantage.
  • Well-developed communication skills, both spoken and written, along with strong interpersonal ability.
  • Good prioritisation and workload management skills, including the ability to switch between tasks when needed.

Culture and benefits

Southern Cross Health Insurance values a caring, honest, and open environment grounded in its principles of Ngākau nui, Āhurutanga, and Tikanga. The organisation places a strong emphasis on culture, wellbeing, professional development, and work/life balance.

  • Five days of wellbeing leave each year.
  • Health insurance for you and your immediate whānau.
  • Life insurance cover, plus discounts on pet and travel insurance.
  • Additional parental leave benefits and financial wellbeing support.
  • Access to a workplace wellbeing programme.
  • Option to purchase flexi leave for extra time to study, volunteer, or support your whānau.
  • A paid volunteer day every year to contribute to a community cause with your team.

Location and working arrangement

This permanent, full-time position is based at Te Kupenga, the Auckland CBD office on Fanshawe Street. The role follows a hybrid working model. Applications are welcome from candidates anywhere in New Zealand, but remote-only working cannot be offered for this position.

Inclusion

The organisation has signed the Pride Pledge and supports inclusion and belonging through employee-led networks, including Rainbow Network, Māori Network, Pasifika Collective, and Neurodiversity and Whānau Support groups.

Additional information

This role is intended for someone who is ready to build on strong analytical foundations and develop further into business partnering and more commercially oriented work over time.
