Job description

Role overview

This position supports Queensland’s vocational education and training (VET) system by advising on training programs, workforce development, and pathways such as apprenticeships, traineeships, and transition-to-work services. The role focuses on strengthening training participation, improving job outcomes, and helping align local workforce needs with education and skilling activity.

You will work with employers, schools, training providers, and community groups to promote the importance of VET and skills development, while also assisting with stakeholder engagement, project delivery, and the promotion of departmental initiatives.

Key duties

  • Offer practical guidance and support to stakeholders on Queensland’s VET framework, including apprenticeship and traineeship pathways.
  • Advocate for the benefits of training, capability development, and workforce programs to employers, training organisations, community bodies, and individuals.
  • Plan, support, and deliver regional training, skilling, and workforce development activities that improve VET participation, completion, and employment outcomes in line with local needs.
  • Track stakeholder performance and contribute to better outcomes through education, capability building, issue handling, conflict resolution, site visits, program promotion, and interpretation of program rules and legislation.
  • Research, gather, and analyse information; investigate matters; manage projects; and prepare well-founded recommendations within a corporate governance environment.

What you’ll need

The successful candidate will either already know, or be able to quickly build knowledge of, Queensland’s VET sector, workforce development issues, and departmental programs.

You should be able to work in a way that is positive, ethical, fair, and supportive of accurate, timely, and high-quality advice for colleagues, stakeholders, and clients.

Strong initiative, sound personal accountability, and the ability to deliver reliable outcomes while contributing to business unit and regional priorities are essential.

Excellent communication is required, including consultation, negotiation, problem solving, conflict resolution, public speaking, and report writing.

Location

The role may be based at any DTET metropolitan regional office location, including Nundah, Ipswich, or Mount Gravatt.

How to apply
