Job description

Role overview

As a Field Enforcement Officer, you will support local communities by visiting households, discussing TV licence obligations, outlining the options available, and guiding customers through the next steps. The position offers full training, strong benefits, and the independence of working on the road.

Compensation and benefits

The role offers an annual salary of £31,650, along with either a company car for business and personal use or a £3,700 yearly car allowance. Mileage is reimbursed, including the commute from your home each day. You will work a flexible 36.5-hour week, with the option to compress your hours into four days. Additional benefits include a generous holiday package with the option to buy extra leave, pension coverage, life assurance, a paid volunteering day, and family-friendly policies. You will also have access to wellbeing support, colleague diversity groups, discount schemes, and financial wellbeing tools and resources.

Working pattern and location

Field Officers work flexibly so they can reach customers at the times that suit them best. Of the 36.5 weekly hours, 12 hours must be scheduled between 4pm and 9pm from Monday to Friday, or at any time over the weekend. You will start and finish your day from home and travel locally across Stoke. To be eligible for the location requirement, you must live in an ST postcode area. All necessary equipment and training will be provided.

Key duties

Your main responsibility will be to visit addresses where no TV licence is registered. You will speak with customers in a clear, professional manner, explain licensing rules and possible solutions, arrange payment plans where suitable, and document visit results accurately using mobile technology. The role also requires you to work independently, make sensible decisions in the field, and attend court occasionally as part of the enforcement process.

Skills and experience

The employer is seeking someone with a full UK driving licence, strong communication skills, and the confidence to interact with people from different backgrounds. You should remain calm, professional, and resilient in challenging customer situations, with solid judgement and a practical approach to problem solving. Accuracy is important when recording information, and you need to be comfortable working on your own schedule, using mobile devices and apps, and travelling throughout the ST postcode area. A positive attitude and willingness to learn are important. Previous experience in a customer-facing role is essential, and your professionalism and communication style will be valued most.

Equal opportunity and support

The employer is committed to fair, inclusive hiring and supports candidates and employees through a barrier-free recruitment process and workplace. If you need the job information or application materials in an alternative format, or require adjustments or support during the process, assistance is available.
