Role Summary
The Field CTO is a senior, high-influence role focused on executive engagement, field enablement, and strategic product feedback. In this position, you represent the technical and strategic voice of the organization, support sales efforts, help build pipeline, advance opportunities, and maintain trusted long-term relationships with customer leadership teams. You partner closely with regional sales leadership on priority accounts with major pipeline potential and act as a technical sponsor for key customers. The role requires a strong understanding of customer technical environments and the ability to explain how HashiCorp, an IBM company, supports business outcomes.
Key Contributions
- Partner with field marketing teams to increase awareness and generate pipeline through customer events, round tables, workshops, conferences, blogs, webinars, white papers, and similar activities.
- Collect customer input on product messaging, pricing, and capabilities, then share insights with sales, marketing, R&D, enablement, and services teams.
- Work with regional sales teams to build meaningful relationships and serve as a technical leader and trusted advisor for strategic accounts.
- Assess customer needs across technical, organizational, and operational areas and explain how HashiCorp products can address them at enterprise scale.
- Identify opportunities for adoption, expansion, and broader use of products within customer accounts while reinforcing a unified market message.
- Collaborate with product and marketing teams to relay customer pain points and requirements that can influence future product direction.
- Drive executive-level conversations with CISOs and CxOs alongside field teams.
- Review and strengthen technical content, best practices, and enablement material based on field experience.
- Lead executive briefings and advisory boards with customers, partners, and prospects.
- Help educate, mentor, and upskill sales and customer success teams through internal enablement initiatives.
Communication and Thought Leadership
You will regularly represent the organization in webinars, speaking engagements, round tables, marketing events, advisory boards, executive briefings, and similar forums. Success in this role depends on strong presentation ability and the confidence to speak effectively with both business and technology audiences, including senior executives. You will also help shape public and internal messaging around the company’s principles and technical vision, while enabling internal teams and partners to strengthen the product story.
Required Background
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, MIS, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
- Proven history of executive-level engagement or prior experience operating at an executive level.
- Comfort speaking to audiences ranging from small groups to very large virtual crowds.
- Strong technical grounding in cloud automation, DevOps, and security.
- Recent hands-on industry experience with deep expertise in DevOps and infrastructure automation tooling.
- Working knowledge of distributed computing architecture design principles.
- Ability to influence both business leaders and technical decision-makers in large global enterprises.
- Experience leading or selling into large enterprise environments.
- Ability to communicate the value of strategic and tactical solutions for complex enterprise use cases.
- Confidence participating in dynamic sales discussions and influencing stakeholders effectively.
- Capability to act as an industry thought leader in customer meetings and public settings.
- Strong awareness of market and industry trends to deepen product understanding.
- Excellent verbal, written, visual, and presentation skills, including comfort with impromptu whiteboarding.
- Fluent English communication skills.
Preferred Experience
Familiarity with IBM and HashiCorp products and services is an advantage.
Education
Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
