MV Transportation (MVT Canadian Bus, Inc.) operates conventional and specialized transit services for the City of Barrie from a modern $22 million facility under a 20-year operating agreement that began in 2015. Role Overview
The Facility Technician is responsible for keeping transit service stops clean, organized, well maintained, and safe.
Key Duties
- Sweep floors at transit service stops and keep the area clean.
- Collect, remove, and dispose of waste and recycling.
- Restock, service, and clean stop supplies as needed.
- Clean seating areas and fixtures.
- Wash windows and glass surfaces using suitable cleaning materials and tools.
- Prepare cleaning mixtures by combining water with detergents or acids according to product instructions.
- Record issues and report maintenance concerns that need attention.
- Perform minor repairs when appropriate.
- Use chemical cleaners and powered equipment safely to avoid damage to floors and fixtures.
- Clear snow from sidewalks and surrounding areas using shovels and snow blowers, and apply de-icing materials.
- Advise supervisors when larger repairs or additions are needed.
- Request cleaning and maintenance supplies and equipment.
- Keep the work area safe and follow safety practices to reduce injury risk.
- Maintain accurate shift logs, reports, and records.
- Work cooperatively with colleagues and supervisors while upholding company values.
- Present a professional appearance, including proper uniform use, grooming, and hygiene standards.
- Show reliable attendance and punctuality in line with company policy.
- Attend mandatory training sessions, safety meetings, and other required meetings.
- Carry out additional duties as assigned.
Working Conditions
This role is primarily field-based and involves extended standing and walking, frequent arm use, repetitive hand and wrist motion, and physical activity such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling cleaning tools and materials. Work is mainly outdoors and may involve wet or humid weather, harsh conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Valid Ontario G driver’s licence or higher.
- At least 2 years of driving experience with a satisfactory driving record.
- Two years of relevant experience is preferred, though an equivalent mix of education and work experience may also be considered.
Knowledge and Skills
- Understanding of standard cleaning methods, cleaning agents, and equipment.
- Familiarity with WHMIS requirements.
- Knowledge of the transit service area.
- Ability to read and follow labels and instructions for chemical products.
- Capability to operate cleaning equipment safely.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to plan work ahead and organize tasks effectively.

Compensation
The wage is $23.74 per hour, plus a $1.00 shift premium where applicable.
