Role Overview

The school is looking for a practical and proactive Facilities Assistant Technician to help ensure that buildings, systems, equipment, and outdoor areas remain safe, functional, and well maintained. Working with the Facilities Manager, Operations Team, contractors, and other school staff, this person will contribute to the smooth running of the campus and help maintain an environment that supports teaching, learning, and wellbeing.

The position includes routine maintenance, minor repairs, preventive upkeep, compliance support, and general site assistance. It is an important part of the school’s operations and supports the wider mission and values of Queen Elizabeth’s School, Dubai Sports City.

Key Duties

The role involves carrying out day-to-day maintenance work across the school, responding quickly to repair requests, and supporting the upkeep of the campus to a high standard.

Maintenance and Repairs

  • Complete general repair work, small improvements, and routine maintenance tasks across the campus.
  • Act on maintenance requests from staff and departments in a timely manner.
  • Perform basic work in plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and mechanical maintenance within personal competence.
  • Repair and maintain furniture, fittings, fixtures, and school equipment.
  • Help deliver preventive maintenance programmes to keep facilities operating well.
  • Escalate issues that need specialist attention or further inspection.

Facilities and Site Support

  • Support the daily functioning of school facilities so the environment remains safe and welcoming.
  • Set up and clear furniture, equipment, and resources for assemblies, exams, events, and meetings.
  • Carry out routine checks of classrooms, offices, shared spaces, and outdoor areas to spot maintenance needs.
  • Keep school areas safe, tidy, clean, and presentable.
  • Assist with outdoor upkeep, including playgrounds, pathways, and sports areas when needed.

Health, Safety, and Compliance

  • Make sure all maintenance work follows health and safety rules and school procedures.
  • Report hazards, defects, and safety issues to the Facilities Manager without delay.
  • Support statutory inspections and maintenance schedules to help the school remain compliant.
  • Use tools, equipment, and materials in a safe and responsible way.
  • Assist with emergency processes and site-related incidents when required.

Resource and Equipment Management

  • Store tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in an orderly and safe manner.
  • Track stock levels of maintenance materials and flag items that need restocking.
  • Check that maintenance equipment remains in good working condition and suitable for use.
  • Support contractors on site by granting access and ensuring school procedures are followed.

Operational Support

  • Help with classroom moves, relocations, and furniture installation.
  • Provide practical support during special events, inspections, and community activities.
  • Assist with minor refurbishment and improvement projects.
  • Carry out other reasonable tasks needed for effective school site operations.

Safeguarding and Professional Conduct

  • Help maintain a secure, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.
  • Always represent the school professionally.
  • Follow safeguarding and child protection expectations in line with school policies and local regulations.
  • Keep appropriate professional boundaries while working within the school setting.

Candidate Profile

The school is looking for someone with a hands-on approach, strong organisation, and a careful eye for detail, who is committed to high-quality facilities support.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A relevant maintenance, trade, or vocational qualification is preferred.
  • Prior experience in handyman, maintenance, facilities, or building services work is expected.
  • Experience in a school, education, hospitality, or commercial setting is an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical work, and general maintenance is needed.
  • Understanding of health and safety standards linked to facilities maintenance is important.
  • Awareness of local regulations and compliance requirements is beneficial.
