Job description
Role overview
We are looking for an experienced Personal Care Worker to join the Christie Downs team and provide compassionate, person-centred support to older adults from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. The role is focused on helping residents live with dignity, independence, and respect while staying connected to their preferences, heritage, and community.
This opportunity is available on a casual or permanent part-time basis. It offers flexible shifts, a collaborative team setting, and the chance to make a meaningful contribution to residents’ everyday lives.
In this position, you will work within a house-based team environment led by clinical and non-clinical leaders, where courtesy and kindness are central to how care is delivered.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver personal care and practical support aligned with each resident’s individual care plan.
- Assist residents with daily living tasks such as hygiene, dressing, grooming, mobility, and mealtime support.
- Support participation in social, recreational, and everyday community activities.
- Communicate with residents, families, and colleagues in an empathetic and culturally sensitive way.
- Notice and escalate changes in a resident’s health, wellbeing, or behaviour to clinical staff.
- Work cooperatively with a multidisciplinary team to maintain a high standard of care.
- Protect residents’ rights to privacy, dignity, and personal choice.
- Help residents maintain cultural traditions, language, and community connections, with particular attention to Greek culture for many residents.
About you
You should bring prior experience in aged care or another personal care setting, along with a genuine commitment to supporting older people to live well and remain independent. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication, and the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse cultural backgrounds are important for this role.
Shortlisting will favour applicants with at least 3 to 4 years of relevant experience.
Qualifications and clearance requirements
- Formal training in Aged Care, Disability, or Community Services is preferred, such as Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, or an equivalent qualification.
- A National Police Clearance is required, or you must be willing to obtain one.
- An NDIS Clearance is required, or you must be willing to obtain one, specific to the St Peters site.
- You need to be available for a variety of shifts, including weekends and public holidays when required.
What the employer offers
- Access to training and development that supports ongoing professional growth.
- Work that has a direct and meaningful impact on residents’ lives.
- A supportive and inclusive team culture built on courtesy and kindness.
- Competitive remuneration along with salary packaging benefits.
Application guidance
Applicants are expected to submit a resume and a cover letter that explains their relevant experience and qualifications, what drives their interest in the role, and how they apply person-centred care in everyday interactions with residents. Applications that do not include these details may not be shortlisted.
