Role overview
Alberta Health Services is hiring a reliable, self-driven Environmental Services worker for a healthcare setting in High Prairie, Alberta. This role focuses on maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary spaces across patient care areas, offices, and shared public and staff zones. Training will be provided to ensure cleaning and disinfection are completed to Alberta Health Services standards.
The position includes a rotating schedule that can cover days, evenings, nights, and weekends. The role also comes with a Remote Retention Allowance of up to $3,000 per year. This allowance is not pensionable and is paid hourly for all hours compensated at the base rate.
What you will do
You will support the upkeep of both clinical and non-clinical healthcare spaces within a hospital or facility. Work may involve routine cleaning, disinfection, and general environmental maintenance, along with attention to safety and reporting concerns.
Core duties
- Clean and disinfect patient rooms, clinical areas, office spaces, and shared staff/public areas.
- Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors as part of daily housekeeping duties.
- Refill bathroom supplies and keep restrooms stocked.
- Remove used linen, change beds, and prepare beds as required.
- Use industrial cleaning equipment for floor care and restoration tasks.
- Wash ceilings and windows thoroughly when assigned.
- Handle and empty hazardous waste following required procedures.
- Restock cleaning materials and linen supplies.
- Spot and report safety or maintenance hazards to the Working Leader.
- May help train or orient Environmental Services or Laundry staff.
Schedule and role details
This is a regular full-time position based at High Prairie Health Complex. The job is classified under the AUPE GSS unit in the Linen Environmental Services program. The expected FTE is 1.00. Shift length is 7.75 hours, with a 2-week cycle and 10 shifts per cycle. Workdays may fall on days, evenings, nights, and weekends, with days off according to rotation. The posting notes a start date of 04-JUL-2026 and an end date of 24-JUN-2026. Vehicle use is not required.
Compensation
Base pay ranges from $22.58 to $24.68 per hour. In addition, an hourly Remote Retention Allowance is available, up to an annual maximum of $3,000, and it is not pensionable.
Requirements
Applicants must have completed Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education. You should be comfortable using computers and smartphones, able to follow both spoken and written instructions, and capable of working independently with limited supervision. The role also requires the physical ability to stand and walk for long periods, repeat tasks throughout the shift, lift up to 25 lbs, and push or pull up to 50 lbs of force.
Preferred background
Previous cleaning experience is preferred. Experience in healthcare cleaning would be considered an asset.
