Job description

About the Role

PBFCM is looking to add an entry-level Litigation File Clerk to its Houston office right away. The firm has operated since 1970 and serves more than 2,000 public-sector entities across Texas, including school districts, cities, counties, hospital districts, appraisal districts, and special districts. It has expanded consistently over the years and now operates 15 offices statewide with more than 50 attorneys and over 400 employees. The organization says its long-term success is rooted in honesty and ethical conduct.

What You’ll Do

  • Support legal assistants and attorneys with clerical work that helps move litigation matters along.
  • Handle, organize, and process records in document storage systems.
  • Prepare and electronically file litigation paperwork with different courts.
  • Draft routine outgoing correspondence.
  • Communicate by email each day with legal assistants and attorneys.
  • Keep databases current, including the e-cabinet system and the firm’s proprietary case management platform.
  • Work to daily timelines tied to multiple steps in the litigation workflow.
  • Take on other clerical or administrative tasks as assigned.

Experience Needed

This is an entry-level opening, so prior experience is not required. A background in a law office and a basic understanding of litigation would be an added advantage.

Education

A high school diploma or an equivalent credential is required.

Core Skills and Competencies

The ideal candidate should bring strong grammar, spelling, and basic math ability, along with solid command of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Success in this role also depends on the ability to work under pressure, stay organized, manage several tasks at once, and remain highly detail-oriented. Dependability, punctuality, independent work style, and familiarity with office procedures and equipment such as copiers, scanners, and fax machines are important.

Preferred Strengths

Helpful extras include sharp critical thinking, strong computer skills, a proactive mindset, and excellent organizational, interpersonal, and verbal/written communication abilities.

Work Environment

The role is mostly computer-based and involves sitting for much of the day. The employer provides on-the-job training. Performance is reviewed within the first 60 days, followed by annual reviews. The position reports to the department supervisor and litigation manager.

Physical Requirements

This job regularly involves walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. It also requires standing, using hands to handle or feel items, reaching with arms, and sometimes stooping, kneeling, or crouching. Required vision capabilities include close, peripheral, and depth perception, as well as the ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel by air or car may be necessary.

Additional Information

The company notes that interested candidates should submit an application through its website.
