Role Summary
The Energy Marshal for a data center setting will oversee electrical safety and energy control processes across construction, commissioning, and operations. The position is centered on maintaining safe energy isolation practices, enforcing compliance, and supporting commissioning and sustainability efforts in a mission-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee lockout/tagout processes and make sure every contractor follows the required controls.
- Serve as the main point of coordination between construction, commissioning, and operations teams on energy safety matters.
- Examine and sign off on energy isolation plans and work permits.
- Carry out site inspections and audits to confirm that safety procedures are being followed.
- Intervene when unsafe work is observed and uphold OSHA and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Track energy consumption and performance indicators, then prepare reports on findings.
- Check mechanical and electrical systems during commissioning to confirm proper operation.
- Support the rollout of energy-efficiency measures and sustainable working methods.
- Keep accurate documentation of energy control actions and compliance measures.
- Provide guidance and training to teams on electrical safety and isolation practices.
Qualifications and Experience
A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. The role calls for 8 years of experience in electrical safety management, ideally within data center or other mission-critical environments. Candidates should bring hands-on exposure to energy isolation systems, commissioning workflows, and large-scale electrical infrastructure. A strong working knowledge of electrical distribution systems, HVAC, UPS, switchgear, and BMS is needed, along with the ability to read technical drawings and commissioning documents. Good communication, coordination, and analytical abilities are also important, as is comfort using Microsoft Office and energy monitoring tools.
