Job description
Job Purpose
The main responsibility of the Steam and Gas Mechanic is to safely carry out the installation, upkeep, inspection, and repair of heavy rotating machinery primarily used in power generation. This role requires close cooperation with Supervisors, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) staff, and the Operations team to successfully meet objectives.
Key Accountabilities
- Interpret schematic diagrams and technical documents to establish accurate work procedures.
- Disassemble and reassemble machinery and equipment utilizing various hand, power, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools.
- Transport machinery, parts, and equipment with hoists, cranes, chain falls, and trucks as needed.
- Align machinery and equipment using tools such as hoists, squares, micrometers, dial indicators, or following recommendations from laser alignment specialists.
- Conduct inspections of machines and components utilizing precision instruments including micrometers, rulers, and calipers.
- Manage tools, equipment, and supply inventory responsibly.
- Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Communication & Collaboration
This role necessitates working closely with Outage Managers, Field Service Engineers, and Supervisors internally, and establishing positive rapport with plant crews and contractors externally.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- Possession of a Diploma in a Technical Field; Gas Turbine Systems Technician qualification is preferred.
- At least two years’ experience in maintaining, dismantling, and assembling machinery and industrial service equipment such as pumps, motors, fans, generators, and turbines.
- Proven experience in the correct use of tooling.
- Strong knowledge of current technologies and innovations relevant to the field.
- Awareness of applicable legal, quality, health, safety, security, and environmental regulations.
- Sound understanding of power plant operations, maintenance activities, equipment, and related procedures.
- Readiness to travel domestically and internationally.
- Willingness to work at international locations including hardship sites and to work in shift patterns.
