Job description
Role overview
This is a permanent day-shift electrical technician position based in Clondalkin, Dublin. The role sits within a utility and plant operations environment and focuses on supporting reliable day-to-day running of site equipment, maintenance systems, and engineering improvements.
The technician will be trained across a range of maintenance and reliability processes, including predictive maintenance, CMMS use (Pemac), reliability methods, LV distribution, turbines, boilers, compressors, diesel generators, pumps, and related utility systems.
Working pattern
Standard working hours are Monday to Thursday from 07:00 to 15:30 and Friday from 07:00 to 15:00.
Key duties
The role includes coordinating daily activity with shift technicians, especially during morning handovers, and acting as a point of contact for external service providers.
You will investigate faults and equipment failures in utility plant systems, carry out root cause analysis, and support compliance and quality processes by recording and reviewing deviations.
Planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities form a core part of the job, with responsibility for completing preventive maintenance on schedule and working confidently within a CMMS environment.
There is also scope to create and improve PMs, job plans, and SOPs, while working with the site planner and stores team to identify spare parts and maintenance needs.
The role requires periodic review of the maintenance programme to help maintain strong uptime levels, along with full support for site safety procedures.
Experience in HV and LV distribution, electrical generation turbines, diesel generators, boilers, fuel oil storage and distribution systems, and industrial gas installations is relevant to the position.
In addition to technical work, the technician is expected to make operational decisions around plant suitability, plant shutdowns, communication with affected teams, and restoration strategies using back-up or standby systems where needed.
The role also involves responding appropriately to serious service outages, mentoring team members, and helping them build the capability to resolve complex plant deviations and failures.
Support will be required for the Site Engineer and HV Engineer in root cause analysis, planning complex isolations, contributing to capital improvement projects, and assisting with commissioning and handover of utility systems from projects to operations.
Continuous improvement is an important part of the job, including identifying and implementing efficiency improvements in plant operation and working methods, while building deeper understanding of complex mechanical systems.
Additional information
The day lead technician may need to cover shift duties from time to time and may also be asked to support emergency site situations outside normal working hours.
Requirements
Applicants should be a qualified electrician with previous experience in a similar environment. An analytical approach is important, and prior exposure to six sigma or lean methods would be an advantage.
Relevant background in energy conversion and distribution is preferred.
