Role overview

This is a remote contract opportunity for a journalist in Canada. The role calls for a weekly commitment of about 10 to 40 hours.

What you will do

• Investigate story ideas, develop pitches, and turn them into original news pieces, features, and longer-form articles.
• Carry out interviews, collect direct insights, and confirm information through reliable and authoritative references.
• Produce well-written content that is accurate, engaging, and adapted to different reader groups.
• Review, refine, and proofread copy so it remains clear, consistent, and aligned with editorial standards.
• Work alongside editors, designers, and fellow journalists to improve the overall quality of published work.
• Track current developments, trends, and subject areas connected to assigned reporting beats.

What we are looking for

• Background as a journalist, supported by a strong body of previously published work.
• Excellent writing and speaking abilities, along with careful attention to detail.
• Capability to interview sources effectively and distill complex information into clear narratives.
• Comfort working on your own, managing deadlines, and staying productive in a remote setup.
• A naturally inquisitive mindset with initiative and strong analytical thinking.
• Working knowledge of media regulations, journalistic ethics, and standard newsroom practices.
