Job description
Role overview
This position is responsible for moving food that is ready to be served or prepared to school locations, using both school-owned and company vehicles. When delivery work is not underway, the role also involves helping keep storage spaces organized and maintained.
Key duties
- Transport hot and cold menu items, along with supplies, to schools for regular meals and school events.
- Make additional deliveries to other schools as needed, including commodities, with at least one major delivery each week.
- Support teammates with heavy stock handling when requested.
- Maintain storage spaces such as walk-in coolers and freezers.
- Keep all work areas tidy and sanitary.
- Arrange inventory so it remains orderly and stacked properly.
- Put away incoming deliveries as quickly as possible.
- Assist with sweeping and mopping the kitchen when that task applies to Opaa staff.
- Help unload food deliveries of commodity items.
- Step in to support the dishwasher when needed.
- Refuel the van and truck as required.
- Hold the appropriate CDL or other required license to operate company or school district vehicles.
- Carry district receipts for processing when this is part of the assignment.
- Follow all safety rules in Opaa's Safety Procedure Manual and work carefully at all times.
- Report unsafe conditions to the correct supervisor, attend required trainings and in-service sessions, and take part in the safety incentive program.
Education and qualification details
A level below high school is acceptable, or up to one month of related training or experience, or a similar mix of education and experience.
Skills and abilities
The job calls for basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. It also requires understanding ratios, percentages, and bar graphs, plus the ability to follow written or verbal instructions and handle routine problems in standard situations.
Physical and work requirements
This role includes regular standing, walking, and sensory awareness such as tasting or smelling. Frequent use of hands, arms, tools, and communication abilities is needed. Sitting, climbing, balancing, and bending or kneeling may occur occasionally. Good peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment are also part of the position.
