Job description
Role summary
This position serves as the Deputy for DLA Distribution Saudi Arabia, supporting a forwarding operating defense distribution center or theater distribution platform and working within a secondary-level field activity in DLA Distribution. The role partners with the Commander to lead the ongoing government activity that oversees service providers, and it carries responsibility for coordinating logistics support in a deployed overseas environment.
What you will do
- Help direct and manage the work of the government organization that oversees the service provider.
- Put the Quality Assurance Surveillance Plan into action and lead planning, organization, and direction of logistics programs for assigned customers.
- Review and refine plans, programs, and objectives, and recommend significant improvements to strengthen customer support.
- Bring together supply, distribution, and warehousing activities to position stock forward across the Southwest Asia theater and improve support efficiency.
- Meet with customers, contractors, federal and local officials, and military officers to discuss and resolve complex or sensitive issues.

- Overseas tour length is 12 months and is unaccompanied.
- Financial disclosure is required.
- This is an Expeditionary Civilian position categorized as Emergency Essential.
- In a crisis, the incumbent may be directed to deploy temporarily or remain in place to support contingency operations.
- The role may include participation in readiness exercises.
- The position may not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously affecting organizational readiness.
- Military reservists selected for this role must be removed from the reserve component before appointment.
- Emergency Essential positions are subject to deployment to combat-support situations through TDY orders, which may include additional compensation depending on location.
- Drug testing rules apply, including pre-employment, reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random testing.
- The organization may test for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, heroin, phencyclidine, amphetamines, methamphetamines, fentanyl, norfentanyl, MDMA, MDA, and opioids.
- CBD use can trigger a positive marijuana test result.
- Employees in testing-designated roles must return a negative drug test result within 30 calendar days after the entry-on-duty date.
- Candidates should be motivated to improve federal government efficiency and support the rule of law and the U.S. Constitution.
Qualifications
To qualify, your resume and supporting documents must show one year of specialized experience that is directly related to this position. For GS-13, that experience must be equivalent to the GS-12 level in federal service, the military, or the private sector.
- Experience managing distribution, storage, and transportation programs involving DoD logistics systems, the Distribution Standard System, and the overall distribution network.
- Experience providing technical oversight and monitoring a service provider supporting major military activities while helping the host facility carry out its mission.
- Experience creating administrative plans and procedures as the primary on-site technical authority for distribution management.
Only qualifying paid or unpaid experience counts, including volunteer work through national service, professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, or social organizations.
Work environment and physical requirements
The job involves standing and walking for extended periods, with regular bending, stooping, reaching, and similar activity in storage areas. The incumbent will routinely visit warehouses, open storage sites, and similar environments. Noise, adverse weather, and the need for protective equipment or special precautions may be part of the work.
Education
Education cannot replace the required specialized experience for this grade.
Additional overseas information
U.S. citizens living overseas under ordinarily resident status are not eligible for appointment under the Status of Forces Agreement. Ordinarily resident means a U.S. citizen who is locally resident, has legal permanent resident status in the host country, and is subject to host-country employment and tax laws.
Pay retention may be available to eligible employees selected through a formal recruitment program for an overseas position.
This role is not eligible for appointment as a Reemployed Annuitant.
