Role overview

This is a senior leadership role for a Canada-based Director, Workday & HRIS. The position is focused on guiding and improving the global HR technology ecosystem in a complex multinational setting. You will shape the direction of Workday and connected HR platforms so they support business expansion, workforce operations, and better decision-making.

The role brings together technology strategy, process improvement, stakeholder partnership, and data governance. You will work closely with HR, Payroll, IT, finance-related partners, and senior leaders to strengthen system capability, improve efficiency, and support scalable people operations. Key accountabilities

  • Lead the worldwide administration, governance, and long-term roadmap for Workday in a shared enterprise environment.
  • Align HR technology projects with business priorities and compliance expectations by working with internal stakeholders and system owners.
  • Drive the design, configuration, improvement, and optimization of Workday modules, integrations, and business workflows.
  • Create and maintain governance standards, policies, reference documents, and operating procedures for HRIS across the organization.
  • Act as a Workday subject matter expert and identify ways to improve efficiency, automation, and employee experience.
  • Protect data quality by overseeing audits, reconciliations, reporting controls, and system monitoring.
  • Work with Payroll, Benefits, Finance, and IT teams to support integrations, resolve issues, and keep data moving smoothly between systems.
  • Own Workday release management, assess new features, and promote adoption of updates that advance business goals.
  • Develop reports, dashboards, analytics, and workforce insights that help leaders make informed decisions.
  • Manage vendor relationships, participate in enterprise governance discussions, and help deliver global HR technology initiatives successfully.
  • Provide training, support materials, and change management support to improve adoption and day-to-day use of the system.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience in HR technology leadership, HRIS management, or administration of enterprise HR systems.
  • Strong background managing Workday environments in global, multinational organizations.
  • Experience working in shared or multi-tenant Workday governance models and collaborating across business units.
  • Workday Pro certification in one or more HCM modules is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on knowledge of Workday configuration, business process design, EIBs, integrations, testing, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
  • Good understanding of HR operations, workforce processes, talent management, compensation, time tracking, and related HR areas.
  • Proven success leading HR technology transformation programs and delivering major system enhancements.
  • Experience with data governance, reporting, analytics, audits, and maintaining cross-system data integrity.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with a practical approach to simplifying complex processes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and lead global initiatives in a fast-moving environment.
