What You'll Lead

As the Director Stakeholder Communications, you will be responsible for the strategic direction of the Communications and Engagement function. You will lead a team dedicated to clear, confident, and purposeful communication, adept at managing complex and rapidly evolving environments. Your responsibilities will involve shaping the organization's strategic narrative, guiding key stakeholder interactions, and positioning Customs to address opportunities and emerging issues. Developing and leading a high-performing team, fostering collaboration, and ensuring accountability will be key aspects of this role.

What You'll Bring

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, media relations, and ministerial servicing.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the public sector, including government operations, political neutrality, ministerial protocols, and the significance of public confidence and reputation.
  • Demonstrated success in strategy development and execution within complex operational settings.
  • Proven experience in managing reputational risks and navigating politically sensitive situations.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with a focus on coaching and developing senior team members.
  • Proficiency in utilizing data, insights, and digital tools for informed decision-making.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities, capable of delivering clear and impartial advice.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent senior-level professional experience.
