Job description

About Blykalla

Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company working on advanced nuclear technology. The company is developing small modular reactors designed to deliver clean, dependable, and safe power. Its lead-cooled reactor concept is intended to combine high safety with a compact footprint, enabling a simpler, more economical design that can be produced at scale. The technology is aimed at providing green baseload electricity that works well alongside solar and wind generation.

Role Overview

Blykalla is expanding its Supply Chain team and is hiring a Director, Procurement & Supply Chain for the US. In this position, you will help establish procurement and supply chain capability in the United States, form strategic supplier partnerships, and build a supply network that supports the industrialization and future rollout of the company’s SMRs.

This opportunity is suited to someone with deep experience leading procurement and supply chain functions in technically complex, heavily regulated environments, and who enjoys creating systems and organizations from the ground up.

Assignment and Mission

As the Director, Procurement & Supply Chain, you will define and implement the procurement and supply chain approach for Blykalla’s US operations. You will partner closely with Engineering, Projects, and Executive Leadership to create a strong supplier base that can support development, manufacturing, and commercialization of the reactor platform.

The position is highly strategic and combines long-term capability building with active sourcing leadership during a period of growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and run the procurement and supply chain strategy for the US business, making sure it supports company goals, industrialization plans, and future reactor deployment.
  • Develop and expand the US procurement and supply chain function, including processes, governance, supplier strategy, and future team capabilities.
  • Work closely with Engineering, Project Management, and senior leadership to understand technical needs, schedules, and long-range objectives.
  • Study global markets to identify suppliers and partners suited to first-of-a-kind nuclear technology.
  • Create sourcing plans for EPC contractors, nuclear systems, engineering services, and other mission-critical suppliers.
  • Handle complex sourcing cycles and commercial negotiations while balancing technical fit, quality, delivery, compliance, and total cost.
  • Form durable strategic relationships with priority suppliers to support industrialization and eventual commercial deployment.
  • Ensure sourcing activities follow applicable standards and requirements, including ASME, nuclear quality assurance expectations, and relevant regulations.
  • Improve supplier performance through development programs and continuous-improvement efforts.
  • Own supply chain risk management, including supplier resilience, contingency planning, and mitigation of strategic risks.
  • Lead cross-functional sourcing programs and influence stakeholders across Engineering, Projects, and Executive Leadership.
  • Help the VP of Supply Chain shape the long-term procurement and supply chain roadmap.

Working Relationships

This role is part of the Supply Chain leadership group and reports to the VP of Supply Chain. You will collaborate with teams in Engineering, Project Management, Quality, and Executive Leadership, while also building relationships with suppliers and strategic partners around the world. As the company grows, you will help shape the procurement organization and its future industrial capability.

Who You Are

You are motivated by building structures and solving complex problems. You are comfortable moving between strategy and hands-on execution, and you do well in fast-paced settings where you need to create order, influence decisions, and deliver long-term value.

Required Background

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear, Materials, Industrial, or similar), Supply Chain Management, Procurement, or Business, along with strong technical understanding of complex engineered systems.
  • At least 10 years of progressive procurement and supply chain experience in highly technical and regulated sectors such as Nuclear, Energy, Aerospace, Defense, or Oil & Gas.
  • Proven experience building procurement or supply chain organizations, supplier ecosystems, or strategic sourcing capabilities.
  • Solid understanding of EPC contracts, supplier qualification, and procurement in complex engineering environments.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications, manufacturing processes, quality systems, and nuclear-grade standards.
  • Experience turning engineering, safety, and regulatory needs into practical sourcing strategies.
  • Strong record of leading complex commercial negotiations and managing strategic supplier relationships.
  • Experience contributing to industrialization programs, first-of-a-kind products, or large engineering projects is highly desirable.
  • Strong analytical, commercial, and strategic problem-solving ability.
  • Leadership and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders across functions.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Fluency in English, spoken and written.

Location

This role is based in Austin, Texas, United States.
