Role Overview
This leadership role is responsible for guiding procurement and supplier management for a Long Island-based aerospace organization. The director will set sourcing priorities, build supplier strength, and make sure purchasing activity supports both day-to-day production needs and the company’s longer-term business objectives. The position calls for confident leadership, strong cross-functional coordination, and a continuous-improvement approach.
Primary Responsibilities
- Create procurement strategies that lower total cost while maintaining required quality standards and compliance obligations.
- Lead cost-reduction initiatives that generate measurable savings across sourcing and purchasing activities.
- Research the market and assess supplier capabilities to find vendors that can support varied production requirements.
- Track operational and supplier data to spot early warning signs related to quality, delivery performance, or capacity limitations, and escalate concerns quickly.
- Manage supplier performance after award, strengthen long-term supplier relationships, and drive corrective action when performance gaps arise.
- Identify supply chain risks and lead mitigation plans that protect uninterrupted material availability.
- Partner with engineering, operations, quality, and finance teams to resolve supplier issues and align procurement work with broader business priorities.
- Ensure purchasing activity follows FAR, DAR, ITAR, and internal quality management standards.
- Coach, mentor, and develop procurement team members while supporting ongoing skill growth.
- Maintain accurate procurement data within ERP systems.
- Use root-cause analysis methods to improve supply chain performance and operating efficiency.
Additional Competencies
- Proven ability to negotiate complex supply agreements.
- Prior experience working under FAR requirements.
- Exposure to Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and variation-reduction tools is preferred.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft tools and applications.
Experience and Education
A bachelor’s degree is preferred, though equivalent professional experience may be accepted. Candidates should bring at least 10 years of progressive experience in procurement, supply chain, or a related leadership position.
