Role overview

The Clinical Dietitian will provide hospital-based, evidence-led nutrition care to patients. The role focuses on evaluating nutritional needs, creating and carrying out medical nutrition therapy plans, and partnering with the wider clinical team to improve recovery and overall health outcomes.

Core duties

  • Evaluate patients’ nutritional status using medical records, laboratory results, physical assessment findings, and diet history.
  • Spot patients who are at nutritional risk and set care priorities accordingly.
  • Build tailored nutrition care plans that match each patient’s diagnosis and treatment objectives.
  • Deliver and track nutrition interventions for conditions including diabetes, kidney disease, cancer, malnutrition, gastrointestinal issues, and recovery after surgery.
  • Adjust meal and diet plans as patients progress, react to treatment, or experience changes in medical status.
  • Counsel patients and their families on therapeutic diets, healthy lifestyle changes, and long-term condition management.
  • Create and share patient education resources that suit different needs and reading levels.
  • Take part in ward rounds, case reviews, and multidisciplinary meetings.
  • Work closely with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare staff to deliver coordinated patient care.
  • Liaise with catering and food service teams to make sure prescribed diets are prepared and delivered correctly and on time.
  • Support the planning of therapeutic menus that comply with nutritional standards and hospital protocols.
  • Keep patient records accurate and up to date, including assessments, interventions, and outcomes.
  • Follow hospital procedures, local health authority requirements, and professional clinical nutrition standards.

Qualifications and experience

This position asks for a graduate or postgraduate qualification in Nutrition and Dietetics from a recognized university. Around 5+ years of experience in clinical dietetics within a hospital or healthcare environment is preferred. Candidates should have strong knowledge of nutrition therapy for different diseases, along with solid communication and interpersonal abilities. The role also requires the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
