Job description
Role overview
Tranzit Group has reached its 100-year milestone, and the business continues to grow. As a recognised transport operator in New Zealand, its network of workshops helps keep the fleet operating safely and efficiently.
The Taranaki workshop team is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join the crew. The role offers exposure to a mixed fleet, including conventional diesel vehicles and modern EV technology, making it a strong opportunity to broaden technical capability while working with an experienced and motivated team.
This position will suit someone who values their trade, enjoys troubleshooting, and performs well in a busy environment where the work changes from day to day.
Key duties
- Carry out scheduled servicing and minor mechanical repairs to keep vehicles ready for the road.
- Prepare vehicles for COF inspections.
- Identify mechanical issues and carry out effective fault diagnosis and repair.
- Make sure all work is completed to the required safety and quality standards.
What the employer is looking for
- Trade-qualified Diesel Mechanic with at least 5 years of relevant experience, ideally in road transport.
- Solid skills in diagnostics and mechanical repair.
- Dependable team player with strong communication skills.
- Full New Zealand driver licence; Class 2 or above would be an advantage.
Benefits and support
- Pay matched to experience and skills, along with a fortnightly tool allowance.
- Permanent full-time employment with 42.5 guaranteed hours each week.
- Chance to work on a varied fleet ranging from traditional diesel systems to advanced EV technology.
- Ongoing learning and development opportunities, including support for MITO scholarships.
- Supportive team environment where employees are valued and encouraged.
- Access to staff discounts across Tranzit Group businesses and selected industry partners.
