Job description
Role overview
Royal Mail is recruiting a Delivery Postie with Driving for its Hook Delivery Office in RG27 9ZZ. This is a permanent position with 35 hours per week, scheduled across 5 days from Monday to Sunday, with working hours between 07:30 and 15:15. Because of operational needs, weekend shifts will be required.
The role is centered on delivering mail and parcels to the local community in all weather conditions. It is a physically active job that involves plenty of walking, but it also offers the chance to stay fit while making a meaningful difference to people and local businesses in the area.
What the role involves
You will be delivering letters and parcels to homes and businesses, representing the service in the community, and helping ensure dependable delivery every day. The position calls for someone who can work independently, stay organised, and provide friendly customer service while being out on the route.
Who this role suits
This opportunity is well suited to someone who is energetic, dependable, and self-driven. You should be comfortable spending long periods on foot, working outdoors in all kinds of weather, and taking pride in being a familiar and positive presence in the neighbourhood.
Pay and benefits
The role offers a guaranteed hourly rate of £13.68, paid monthly and adjusted to match your working hours. Other benefits include 22.5 days of holiday that increase with service, a full uniform, a company pension with competitive contribution rates, and strong career development opportunities including trainee manager routes and apprenticeship schemes.
Additional support includes enhanced family leave benefits, 24/7 wellbeing support for you and your family, a range of retail and leisure discounts, and free stamps at Christmas.
Application and recruitment notes
For search purposes, roles between 35 and 37 hours per week may be shown as full-time, but any role under 37 hours per week is treated as part-time in the employment contract. If your application is shortlisted, the next step will be an interview. Applicants are asked to keep their contact details up to date and to review the required document checklist and health-related guidance before applying.
Inclusion and adjustments
The employer welcomes applications from all individuals and is committed to an inclusive recruitment process. Candidates from the Armed Forces community, including cadet instructors and spouses or partners, are especially encouraged to apply. If you need adjustments during hiring, you should discuss them with the recruiter when contacted.
