Role Summary

As a Dedicated Highway Patroller, you will learn and oversee your assigned patrol area while monitoring provincial highways to support the safety of road users. The position calls for active inspections, close observation of changing conditions, and quick response to hazards or deficiencies. You will coordinate repairs and maintenance follow-up as needed and help maintain safe, efficient highway operations.

Key Duties

  • Conduct detailed road patrol inspections and keep watch over roadway conditions, traffic flow, infrastructure issues, environmental concerns, permit compliance, and public safety risks.
  • Identify hazards, document them, remove small debris when appropriate, install temporary warning devices, and act on public complaints.
  • Monitor weather-related impacts and report road conditions and incidents to the Traffic Operations Centre.
  • Maintain precise records such as patrol diaries, inspection logs, incident reports, weather and road condition updates, vehicle checks, deficiency tracking, and daily activity records according to contract rules.
  • Respond to incidents, assist during emergencies and unexpected highway events, and work with internal teams, police, and outside agencies.
  • Ensure patrol coverage obligations are met while handling hazards in a safe and timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Valid G driver’s licence with a clean abstract.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prior experience in patrolling or road works.
  • Working knowledge of OTM Book 7.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DZ or AZ licence.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Basic computer literacy.

Schedule

This role follows a Thursday to Monday workweek.

Compensation

The pay range is $28 to $32 per hour.
