Role Summary
This position is for an experienced Database Administrator Team Lead to head the database engineering function for enterprise systems. The role focuses on running, expanding, and improving database platforms that support demanding digital services with heavy traffic and transaction loads.
The selected professional will be accountable for the architecture, day-to-day operations, performance, protection, and uptime of centralized database environments across both relational and NoSQL technologies. Strong technical leadership, advanced database administration expertise, and experience with highly available systems at scale are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct the DBA team and oversee database operations across PostgreSQL and NoSQL environments.
- Plan, deploy, and maintain clustering, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Support enterprise database systems that handle large authentication, transaction, and application workloads.
- Carry out performance tuning, query improvement, indexing planning, and capacity management.
- Create and uphold database standards, governance models, operating procedures, and best practices.
- Take ownership of architecture decisions, database sizing, scalability plans, and platform dimensioning.
- Track database health, uptime, security posture, and operational performance.
- Guide database administrators across multiple delivery teams and technology streams.
- Work closely with application developers, architects, DevOps, and infrastructure teams to improve database efficiency.
- Ensure backup, recovery, security, and compliance controls are properly implemented.
Required Experience and Skills
- Significant senior-level experience administering enterprise database platforms.
- Practical hands-on expertise with PostgreSQL, with PostGIS experience considered an advantage.
- Experience with NoSQL systems such as OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or similar technologies.
- Strong working knowledge of clustering, replication, partitioning, high availability, disaster recovery, and performance optimization.
- Background in managing high-throughput database environments.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and mentor teams.
- Solid understanding of database security, monitoring, and operational best practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building shared database platforms for large enterprise applications.
- Exposure to Kafka-based replication, change data capture, and event-driven architectures.
- Experience supporting cloud, hybrid, or on-premises database setups.
- Familiarity with database automation, infrastructure as code, and DevOps workflows.
- Prior work in telecommunications, fintech, banking, or digital identity environments.
- Relevant database certifications or cloud database expertise.
