Role overview

Purplle.com is hiring a Data Scientist - I for its Mumbai Metropolitan Region operations. The role is focused on turning large, multi-source datasets into practical business insights and data-driven models that support product, marketing, and platform decisions.

What you will do

  • Study large datasets from sources such as clickstream, sales, and user engagement to surface meaningful insights for decision-making.
  • Build, deploy, and support machine learning models for recommendations, personalization, customer segmentation, demand prediction, and pricing use cases.
  • Create and interpret A/B tests to measure the impact of product changes, marketing initiatives, and user experience improvements.
  • Partner with data engineering teams to make sure analysis-ready data is accurate, complete, and available on time.
  • Work with product, marketing, and engineering stakeholders to translate findings into actions that improve platform outcomes.
  • Develop dashboards and visual summaries that make complex results easy for stakeholders to understand.
  • Perform exploratory analysis to detect trends, patterns, and anomalies that can inform business strategy.

What you need

  • Hands-on experience with Python or R for analytics and machine learning work.
  • Strong command of SQL for working with large datasets.
  • Familiarity with machine learning libraries and frameworks such as Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, or PyTorch.
  • Ability to clean, structure, and transform data from multiple sources.
  • Practical experience with experiment design and analysis for A/B testing.
  • Comfort using visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, or Seaborn.
  • Solid understanding of statistics, probability, and hypothesis testing.
  • Clear communication skills to explain technical findings in simple language to non-technical audiences.

Preferred background

  • Prior work with e-commerce data, including user behavior, transactions, inventory, and product information.
  • Exposure to big data ecosystems such as Hadoop, Spark, or BigQuery.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure for storage and model deployment.
  • Business understanding around e-commerce metrics such as conversion rate, LTV, and customer acquisition cost.

Education

A bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a closely related discipline is expected.
