Role Overview
This opening is for a Data Entry Specialist at the Tampa lab location in Palm River-Clair Mel, Florida. It is an overnight position with working hours of either 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. or 4:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
What You Will Do
The main focus of this role is entering patient, physician, specimen, and billing data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) accurately and efficiently so laboratory operations remain timely and dependable. The position also involves understanding clinical details, protecting data quality, and staying aligned with laboratory procedures and compliance standards.
- Enter patient details, referring physician information, insurance data, billing fields, and related records into the LIS with precision.
- Work consistently at a high standard of speed and accuracy while meeting laboratory quality and error-rate expectations.
- Check requisitions for missing or incomplete information and follow up with physician offices or other healthcare providers when clarification is needed.
- Read specimen site descriptions, clinical impressions, diagnoses, and supporting notes to place information correctly in the LIS.
- Identify and assign the proper specimen topography and other relevant laboratory coding or data elements.
- Prepare, update, and retain required forms, reports, and documentation.
- Assist with specimen receiving and other clerical or administrative tasks when additional support is needed.
- Follow laboratory safety rules, standard procedures, and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Keep patient information confidential and comply with HIPAA and other privacy obligations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or an equivalent credential.
- Prior experience in clerical, administrative, medical billing, healthcare, laboratory, or data processing work.
- Exposure to laboratory information systems or electronic medical records.
- Working knowledge of basic computer functions and word processing tools.
- Familiarity with medical terminology.
- Understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
- Knowledge of quality assurance, client service, and laboratory safety practices.
- Awareness of data processing and billing concepts and methods.
- Comfort using a personal computer and standard office software.
- Typing speed of at least 60 words per minute.
- Strong command of spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
- Ability to use office equipment such as copiers, scanners, calculators, multi-line phones, and fax machines.
- Good organization and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to understand and follow detailed directions, procedures, and specifications.
- Excellent attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly pay range for this position is $18 to $20 per hour.
