Job description
Role overview
Pāmu is looking for a Data & AI Product Lead to take a newly established role focused on turning AI, data, and predictive insights into measurable business value across one of New Zealand’s largest and most varied farming operations. The business already has strong data and AI foundations in place, and this position will help narrow the focus to the opportunities with the highest impact.
In this role, you will work across the organisation to pinpoint where AI, data, and predictive insight can make the biggest difference. You will help sort through competing ideas, prioritise the best opportunities, run quick tests, and convert promising concepts into practical solutions that support better decisions and stronger performance.
The work could include digital twin capability, predictive modelling, and AI-supported decision tools, with involvement from concept development through delivery, user adoption, and value tracking. The subject matter is broad and concrete, spanning animal performance, pasture management, land-use decisions, environmental outcomes, worker safety, and enterprise planning.
This is a highly visible position where you will collaborate with leaders, farm teams, subject matter experts, and technology specialists to solve important problems. The emphasis is on directing time and investment toward practical outcomes rather than technology for its own sake.
You will join a collaborative and experienced team that values curiosity, experimentation, and practical delivery. The workplace is flexible, supportive, and built on trust, giving you room to take ownership, influence decisions, and create real impact.
Pāmu Landcorp Farming Limited is a State-Owned Enterprise operating more than 110 farms throughout New Zealand, with a purpose of delivering innovative and sustainable agricultural solutions for future generations.
What you will do
- Lead the identification of high-value opportunities for AI, data, and predictive insights across the business.
- Work with stakeholders to understand operational challenges, prioritise use cases, and shape workable solutions.
- Guide ideas from early concept through testing, implementation, adoption, and value realisation.
- Support decision-making with analytics, predictive modelling, and AI-enabled tools.
- Bring structure to complex or ambiguous problems and focus effort where it can deliver the greatest return.
- Translate technical ideas into clear, practical language that business teams can act on.
- Partner closely with leaders, farm teams, specialists, and technology experts to deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Help direct investment and attention toward initiatives that create genuine business benefit.
What you will bring
The ideal candidate may come from a background such as Product Lead, Data Product Manager, Analytics Lead, or AI Consultant, or may have successfully delivered data and AI initiatives that addressed real business needs.
What matters most is the ability to recognise where value will be created, bring people together around that vision, and turn ideas into results.
- Experience leading data, analytics, AI, or technology products from concept through delivery.
- Strong ability to work with business stakeholders to define challenges and set priorities.
- Comfort in explaining technical concepts in straightforward, practical terms.
- Use of data, analytics, predictive modelling, or AI to improve decision-making.
- Confidence working through ambiguity and making progress with incomplete information.
- Ability to structure complex problems and focus on the most valuable work.
- Curiosity, strong relationship-building skills, and a collaborative working style.
Preferred background
Experience with AI implementation, product management, SQL, Snowflake, predictive modelling, or agriculture would be helpful, but none of these are mandatory.
Benefits
- Flexible working arrangements
- Competitive salary
- Health and life insurance
- Enhanced parental leave benefits
- Up to 4% KiwiSaver matching
- An extra day of leave over Christmas
- Ongoing training and development opportunities
