Where you'll work
Job description
Role overview
In this position, you’ll represent Tesco on the road and play a key part in the customer journey by delivering groceries directly to homes. The job is not limited to driving alone — it also involves creating a positive experience, providing helpful service, and ensuring every delivery feels personal and reliable. The work is active, varied, and practical, with each shift bringing something different. You’ll often work on your own during the day, while still having support from managers and colleagues at the store when needed.
Availability window
The working pattern for this role is:
- Sunday: 08:00 to 18:00
- Monday: 18:00 to 23:00
- Thursday: 17:30 to 23:00
- Friday: 18:00 to 23:00
Pay and hours
Hourly pay begins at £14.18, and this increases to £15.45 for stores located within the M25. In some locations, extra payments may also be available. A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, although 12-hour roles are also offered in some cases.
Responsibilities
- Keep the van, trays, and working area clean, orderly, and ready so that shopping reaches customers in excellent condition.
- Load the vehicle safely and carry out all required checks so it remains roadworthy and prepared for deliveries.
- Explain substitutions, changes to orders, or short-dated products clearly and politely, and arrange refunds where appropriate to keep the process straightforward for customers.
- Handle every item carefully and deliver each order with the same attention you would give to your own shopping.
- Arrive within the customer’s selected delivery window and provide friendly, reassuring service at the doorstep.
Requirements
- Work well with colleagues and help build a positive team environment that supports strong customer service.
- Be approachable, friendly, and welcoming in interactions with both customers and co-workers.
- Adapt quickly when customer needs change and stay flexible while working on the road and in store.
- Hold a valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence (full or automatic) for at least 12 months.
- Have no more than 3 penalty points on your driving licence.
Benefits
- Holiday entitlement starts at 20 days plus a personal day, and rises to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.
- Flexible working options are available from the first day.
- Receive 10% off with the Colleague Clubcard, increasing to 15% on pay-day weekends, plus an extra card to share with family.
- Access free wellbeing support for mental, physical, and general life needs.
- Life cover is provided at five times your pay, alongside an award-winning pension with matched contributions up to 7.5%.
- You can choose from a variety of benefits, including discounts, shares, and cycle-to-work schemes.
- A uniform is supplied, and there are policies in place to support important life events.
