Job description

About the role

As the person representing Tesco on the road, you will visit customers in their homes and deliver their shopping with care and a friendly attitude. The job is not limited to driving; it also involves offering helpful service, handling orders carefully, and making sure each customer has a positive experience. The work is active, practical, and varied, with different tasks on each shift. You will spend much of your time working on your own, while still having support from managers and colleagues at the store base when needed.

Availability window

The available shifts for this position are:

  • Sunday: 18:45 to 22:45
  • Tuesday: 18:45 to 22:45
  • Wednesday: 17:45 to 21:45
  • Friday: 17:45 to 21:45
  • Saturday: 17:45 to 21:45

Pay and hours

Pay begins at £14.18 per hour and can rise to £15.45 per hour in stores within the M25. Some locations may include extra pay. A minimum of 16 hours per week is guaranteed, and roles with 12 hours per week are also available.

Responsibilities

You will be expected to keep the van, trays, and work area clean, orderly, and ready so that each order reaches the customer in excellent condition.

You will load the vehicle safely and carry out the required checks so it remains roadworthy and prepared for deliveries.

You will explain any substitutions, changes to the order, or short-dated products in a courteous and reassuring way, and process refunds when needed to keep the experience smooth.

You will handle all products with care and treat every delivery as if it were your own to protect quality and customer confidence.

You will deliver orders within the correct time slot and provide a warm, natural doorstep service that leaves customers feeling appreciated.

Requirements

You should be able to build positive working relationships with colleagues and contribute to a strong team atmosphere that supports excellent customer service.

You need to be welcoming and approachable with both customers and colleagues.

You should be comfortable adapting quickly to changing customer needs and to the pace of work both on the road and in-store.

You must hold a valid UK, EU, or EEA driving licence, either full or automatic, for at least 12 months, and you must have no more than 3 penalty points.

Benefits

  • Holiday entitlement starts at 20 days plus one personal day, increasing to 22 days after 12 months, in addition to Bank Holidays.
  • Flexible working options are available from the first day.
  • Colleague Clubcard savings begin at 10% and increase to 15% on pay-day weekends, with a second card available to share with family.
  • Access to free wellbeing support for mental, physical, and overall wellbeing.
  • Life cover equal to five times your pay, plus an award-winning pension with matching contributions up to 7.5%.
  • Additional benefits can include discounts, share options, and cycle-to-work schemes.
  • A uniform is provided, along with policies designed to support important life events.
