Job overview

The Custodial Lead supports the cleanliness and sanitation of assigned areas while also giving limited direction to custodial team members.

Key responsibilities

  • Carry out janitorial and custodial tasks as assigned.
  • Complete all duties listed in the daily work schedule.
  • Support custodians with guidance and hands-on help as directed by the Custodial Supervisor.
  • Help the Custodial Supervisor with staff scheduling and training when needed.
  • Use motorized cleaning equipment safely and effectively.
  • Maintain records for equipment inventory, upkeep, and repairs.
  • Organize cleanups and repair activities as required.
  • Keep the assigned work area consistently clean and maintained.
  • Monitor and manage cleaning supply inventory.
  • Assist with purchasing cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Carry out quality, service, and safety checks.
  • Escalate incidents and hazardous conditions to the supervisor.
  • Report employee-related and customer-related issues to the supervisor.
  • Observe staff for correct use of PPE and cleaning supplies.
  • Address unsafe behavior and notify the supervisor immediately.
  • Recommend corrective actions for areas needing improvement.

Qualifications

Applicants must be able to perform the essential duties of the role safely and successfully. Responsibilities may change or be reassigned at any time, with or without notice.

A high school diploma or GED is required, along with at least 1 year of related experience.

Required or preferred certifications and credentials include CPR/AED/First Aid certification, completion of all safety and task-training certifications, a valid driver’s license if needed, and forklift certification if required.

Skills and abilities

The role calls for the ability to follow written instructions, procedures, manuals, and similar materials. Strong verbal and written communication is important, along with practical knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment care, and the safe, efficient use of cleaning chemicals and compounds. The candidate should also be willing to share cleaning knowledge with the team.

Physical demands and work environment

  • The position may require sitting and speaking or listening for extended periods.
  • Employees must be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.

Schedule and compensation

The shift runs Monday through Friday from 11:00 AM to 7:30 PM.

Pay is $17 to $18 per hour.
