Role overview

documenta und Museum Fridericianum gGmbH is a non-profit organization supported by the City of Kassel and the State of Hesse. It oversees the documenta exhibition, which is held every five years, as well as Fridericianum, documenta archiv, and documenta Halle.

The organization is hiring a Curatorial Assistant (m/f/d) in Kassel to support the delivery of the Performance Art Program for documenta 16. This is a full-time role based in Kassel and runs until October 31, 2027.

What you will do

You will work closely with the responsible curators to put the Performance Art Program into practice and help ensure that planning and execution stay on track.

Responsibilities

  • Support the hands-on delivery of the Performance Art Program in close coordination with the curators responsible for the project.
  • Develop and maintain the production schedule and project timeline.
  • Oversee resources and help ensure they are used effectively.
  • Keep communication flowing smoothly between artists, the curatorial team, curators, and performance venues.
  • Research and coordinate stage equipment and staffing needs across performance spaces of different sizes and requirements.
  • Work closely with the production department of documenta gGmbH.
  • Record and document ongoing processes and project activities.

Requirements

  • Strong background in event management and event production.
  • Relevant professional experience in art or cultural institutions, ideally in team-based environments and in the development of artistic projects.
  • Proven ability to plan, structure, and deliver events of different scales.
  • Very well organized, proactive, and self-driven, with the ability to work independently and also collaboratively in diverse teams.
  • Comfortable adapting to changing situations and fast-moving environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to respond quickly and effectively.
  • Valid class B driver’s license.
