Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for carrying out credit and risk operations on assigned basic transactions, following the company’s established frameworks, policies, and process controls. The role also works closely with Sales, Operations, and Risk colleagues to support effective risk governance and portfolio quality.

Business context

The risk function provides essential underwriting support that helps safeguard business quality, risk discipline, and long-term sustainability. It operates alongside the Sales/Sourcing function and is mapped to corresponding sales positions across the organization. Beyond control and process checks, the team also supports business expansion by jointly evaluating product and market growth ideas with Sales.

The Credit Manager is expected to execute credit and risk activities within approved guidelines, protect the organization from operational and local business risks through checks and process controls, and maintain strong creditworthiness assessments. The role requires direct customer interaction during underwriting and property visits, so practical knowledge of legal and valuation processes is important.

Key challenges

The mortgage business has to handle construction-related risk in addition to standard retail property risk, especially where under-construction projects may not finish as planned. The team must build controls and evaluate proposals with this exposure in mind.

The business is in an early growth phase, which means the risk function must balance portfolio protection with expansion, without increasing weak credit exposure or harming business health.

Housing finance is shaped by state-specific rules, business practices, and differing interpretations of regulations. Team members must stay current on local norms and apply regulatory requirements in a way that reduces risk while still supporting growth.

Required capability

This role calls for business and commercial understanding, strong analytical ability, good interpersonal and presentation skills, and the capacity to execute tasks reliably.

Responsibilities

  • Handle risk and credit operations for assigned basic transactions in line with approved frameworks and business rules.
  • Seek timely input from senior colleagues on technical matters and on state- or property-specific points that affect individual case assessment.
  • Coordinate with the wider risk team for clarification on legal and technical evaluation matters whenever required.
  • Run credit and risk processes efficiently while supporting business performance and safeguarding risk standards.
  • Work with Credit Processing Analysts to ensure files are logged correctly before credit work begins.
  • Collaborate through structured processes with Sales and Operations to support decisions and resolve issues; escalate to RCM when needed.
  • Maintain compliance with risk principles and prepare periodic as well as need-based MIS, reports, and escalation documents.
  • Follow the maker-checker process with Sales and Operations for exception approvals, collateral valuation, PDD completion, cheque bounce collections, and related activities.
  • Coordinate with Collections and Operations teams to monitor delinquent accounts and support effective recovery actions.
  • Escalate complex or specific delinquency and recovery cases to RCM to help prevent NPA build-up.

Requirements

  • CA or MBA in Finance.
  • 0 to 3 years of experience in a bank, NBFC, or HFC.
  • Ability to understand legal and valuation-related framework basics for property-backed lending.
  • Comfort in customer-facing underwriting and property inspection work.
  • Strong analytical, coordination, and execution capability.
