Job description

Role Overview

Arizona State University’s EdPlus unit is looking for a Creative Designer, Social Media to join its Creative Services team in Scottsdale. This role focuses on turning brand-aligned concepts into engaging social creative that connects with current and prospective learners across key platforms. The work sits at the meeting point of visual design, motion, and video, supporting campaign delivery through platform-specific graphics, light animation, and short-form video assets.

The position is based onsite in Scottsdale, AZ with a hybrid structure. The office is located at SkySong, the ASU Scottsdale Innovation Center. Reliable commuting to Scottsdale is required.

About the Organization

ASU EdPlus is a fast-moving unit within Arizona State University dedicated to designing and scaling digital teaching and learning approaches that help students succeed and reduce barriers in higher education. Its work supports ASU’s broader mission of creating academic, social, cultural, and economic impact locally and beyond.

The department values curiosity, innovation, experimentation, urgency, and high-quality service. Team members are encouraged to bring ideas, challenge stale approaches, and contribute to a collaborative environment built around learner outcomes and continuous improvement.

What You’ll Do

  • Create social-first visual content such as static posts, carousels, Stories, motion-led assets, and short-form video for platforms including Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other emerging channels.
  • Edit social videos for Reels, YouTube Shorts, and similar formats, handling pacing, cuts, captions, sound, and export requirements.
  • Rework and adapt campaign assets from the wider EdPlus creative library into channel-specific social executions.
  • Work closely with Marketing to translate content plans and campaign calendars into strong, on-brand creative output.
  • Keep designs consistent with the ASU brand system and EdPlus standards while still exploring creative variety within those boundaries.
  • Help capture short-form video and simple on-location footage in partnership with the Multimedia team when needed.
  • Contribute a creative perspective in planning discussions by identifying what is feasible, what is likely to perform well, and where the team can push creatively.
  • Develop reusable design templates and motion components that improve the team’s ability to scale social production.
  • Stay up to date on social platform changes, format updates, and evolving creative practices, and bring those insights to the team.
  • Operate in a collaborative, deadline-driven setting where priorities can shift quickly.
  • Take on additional duties or project support as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree plus three years of relevant experience in the assigned field, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience that provides comparable knowledge and ability.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree or above in a related discipline.
  • Solid grasp of core design principles, including layout, typography, color, hierarchy, and accessibility.
  • Evidence of social media design experience, ideally shown through a portfolio with platform-specific thinking from work, coursework, internships, or personal projects.
  • Practical experience with Figma and Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Experience editing short-form video with tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, or DaVinci Resolve.
  • Comfort creating within a brand system while still bringing energy and originality to the work.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, including openness to feedback and close collaboration with marketing partners.
  • Familiarity with social media best practices, format specifications, and current design trends.
  • Background in higher education, EdTech, or mission-driven organizations is a plus.
  • Portfolio submission may be requested to show social media design work.

Application Questions to Address

  • Share your experience designing for social platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, or YouTube Shorts, including how you adjusted creative for different audiences, formats, or channels.
  • Describe your experience producing or editing short-form social video using tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, DaVinci Resolve, or similar software. Include your role in editing, motion graphics, sound, captions, or storytelling decisions.

Compensation and Benefits

The role offers compensation of $65,000 to $75,000 per year, depending on experience. The maximum listed pay is $75,000 USD annually. ASU provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes healthcare, financial security, retirement support, family resources, tuition reduction for eligible employees, their dependents and spouse, and discounts.

Work Environment

You will be based in a collaborative workspace at SkySong, ASU’s Scottsdale Innovation Center, which brings together technology, research, education, and entrepreneurship. Flexible work arrangements may be available under ASU policy, but this role remains an in-person hybrid position.
