Role overview

The Ministry of Justice in New Zealand is hiring a permanent, full-time Court Security Manager for Tauranga District & High Court within National Security Operations. In this role, you will lead one of the central region’s security teams and help maintain a safe, secure environment that supports public access to justice.

The position is varied and involves daily contact with a wide range of people, stakeholders, and internal teams. You will also be supported through quality training and a strong team culture.

Key duties

  • Guide, coach, and develop team members so they can reach their full potential.
  • Oversee operations for teams working in a complex and high-demand security setting.
  • Assess risks in live situations and respond with sound, prompt, and confident judgment.
  • Build effective working relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Work alongside agencies such as NZ Police, the Department of Corrections, and Te Oranga Tamariki.
  • Help ensure court operations remain safe and professionally run.
  • If recruited externally, attend a three-week residential training programme in Wellington within three months of starting.

Skills and experience

  • Proven leadership ability.
  • Strong focus on customer service.
  • Ability to calm and defuse conflict.
  • Physical capability to carry out full-contact Officer Safety techniques.
  • Comfort and confidence using technology.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver licence.

Working pattern

This position is for 40 hours per week. Paid overtime may be available when additional coverage is needed. You may also be required to complete a minimum three-hour shift on Saturdays.

Salary

The offered salary range is NZD 74,634 to NZD 95,591 per year, depending on experience and skills.
