Job description

Role overview

This permanent full-time Court Security Manager position sits within National Security Operations and is based at the Tauranga District and High Court in Bay of Plenty, New Zealand. The role is focused on leading a security team that helps maintain a safe, professional, and secure environment so people can access justice services in New Zealand.

You will work across a varied environment, engaging daily with a wide mix of people, stakeholders, and internal teams. The position is part of the Ministry of Justice and may require deployment to other local courts when operational needs demand it, with travel costs covered by the Ministry.

Key duties

  • Guide, coach, and support team members so they can perform at their best.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations in a demanding and complex security setting.
  • Assess operational risk and respond with calm, timely, and confident decisions.
  • Build effective working relationships with a broad range of people.
  • Work alongside partner agencies such as New Zealand Police, the Department of Corrections, and Oranga Tamariki.
  • Help maintain safe and professional court operations.
  • For external hires, attend a three-week residential training programme in Wellington within three months of the start date.

Skills and experience needed

  • Proven leadership capability.
  • A strong customer service mindset.
  • Confidence in managing and defusing conflict situations.
  • Physical ability to carry out full-contact officer safety techniques.
  • Comfort using technology in a work setting.
  • A full, clean New Zealand driver licence.

Working pattern

This role is based on a 40-hour work week. Paid overtime may be available when additional coverage is needed. You may also be asked to work a minimum three-hour shift on Saturdays.

Pay and application details

The salary for this role is set between NZD 74,634 and NZD 95,591 per year, depending on skills and experience.
