Job description

Role overview

This position is responsible for leading inventory control, retail shop operations, and reverse logistics across Sun King’s nationwide network in Kenya. The role focuses on maintaining accurate stock records, smooth day-to-day operations, and strong system discipline across more than 160 retail locations. It also involves managing large inventory movements of over $1.5 million each month, supporting sales expansion, customer fulfillment, and overall operational performance through better processes, stronger controls, and cross-functional collaboration.

Shop and field operations

  • Direct the execution of retail shop and field inventory activities across the country, making sure service levels and timelines are met.
  • Keep inventory well stocked across the field network, with a target of above 90% availability and stock-outs below 3%.
  • Ensure the network consistently follows SOPs, control measures, and inventory governance standards.

Field inventory governance

  • Maintain stock accuracy above 98% and oversee reconciliations and inventory visibility across ERP and CRM platforms.
  • Enforce FIFO practices at all field locations and reduce slow-moving stock so that inventory older than 360 days stays below 5% of total units or value.
  • Coordinate inventory checks, audits, reconciliations, and follow-up actions until issues are closed.

Reverse logistics and operational control

  • Manage return flows for both serialized and non-serialized stock across the field network.
  • Make sure returned inventory is received and reflected in warehouse systems quickly, with a target of under 7 days and more than 99% accuracy.
  • Improve turnaround time, cost efficiency, visibility, and adherence to process in reverse logistics.

ERP and CRM governance

  • Oversee stability and operating discipline for SAP, the internal CRM, and other systems used by field operations.
  • Work closely with data evaluation, sales and marketing, risk, training, and operations teams to close process gaps affecting field execution.
  • Lead user acceptance testing for system updates and safeguard data quality.

Strategy and continuous improvement

  • Support the development and rollout of the annual field operations plan, with a clear focus on efficiency improvements.
  • Drive operational innovation, digital improvement, and process optimization efforts.
  • Identify risks in operations and put controls in place to protect stock integrity and compliance.

Performance tracking and reporting

  • Create and maintain dashboards and reports covering inventory, replenishment, service levels, and operational performance.
  • Prepare periodic management reports with analysis, findings, and recommended actions.
  • Use data-based evaluation to uncover improvement opportunities and support ongoing operational refinement.

Team leadership and capability building

  • Lead a team of more than 25 people across inventory control, operations coordination, and administrative support.
  • Run structured performance management, coaching, skill development, and succession planning.
  • Build a culture of ownership, accountability, and high engagement within the field operations setup.

Additional duties

You may also be assigned other responsibilities as needed.

Candidate profile

  • A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement and Logistics, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related discipline is expected; a master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • At least 8 years of senior-level experience in operations, retail operations, field inventory management, or supply chain management is required.
  • Strong understanding of inventory governance, replenishment, reverse logistics, and operational control practices is necessary.
  • Practical experience using ERPs, CRMs, and operational reporting tools is important.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving ability is needed.
  • Strong people leadership and stakeholder management skills are essential.
  • The role requires the ability to work remotely with minimal supervision.

Additional qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of store management experience.
  • A customer-focused approach and a positive attitude.
