Job description
Role summary
Marken, a wholly owned UPS subsidiary and an important part of UPS Healthcare, operates GMP-compliant depot and logistics networks that support clinical drug product storage and distribution across the world. The business also provides logistics for cell and gene therapy, direct-to-patient and home healthcare services, biological sample transport, and biological kit production.
In this Christchurch-based role, you will oversee the branch’s everyday activities, maintain compliance with GDP requirements, and introduce improved distribution practices. The position also involves leading the team, strengthening client relationships, and driving ongoing operational improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day performance of the Christchurch branch while keeping operations aligned with GDP requirements and established best practices.
- Work closely with the senior leadership team in New Zealand to improve processes and support a constructive workplace culture.
- Drive operational quality by consistently meeting and surpassing service and quality expectations.
- Ensure company policies and ISO standards are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
- Use the Maestro platform to support Marken’s operating methods and track KPI delivery.
- Spot operational risks and implement practical, cost-conscious solutions.
- Deliver high-quality service and contribute to the achievement of strategic business objectives.
- Develop and maintain strong partnerships with key clients while upholding service standards.
- Lead, encourage, and support team members to work collaboratively and perform at a high level.
- Monitor branch finances and keep expenditure under control.
- Handle client-specific operational needs, including import, export, and domestic shipments.
- Coordinate with airlines to keep logistics flows moving efficiently.
- Oversee dry ice orders and branch inventory to support smooth operations.
Experience and skills
You should bring at least five years of experience in a comparable position, along with strong leadership ability and a practical approach to solving problems. A solid grasp of GDP standards and hands-on experience with logistics systems such as Maestro are also important.
