Job description
Role overview
The Ministry of Defence Police is a civilian policing organisation that protects the UK’s Defence community, assets and critical infrastructure. Its work spans armed policing, specialist investigative and intelligence functions, and professional civilian support, with teams operating alongside the Ministry of Defence, US Visiting Forces, and other security partners across the UK.
In this role, you will support HMNB Clyde, home to the UK’s Continuous-At-Sea nuclear deterrent, by turning complex intelligence requirements into practical insight. The position sits at the centre of a national security mission and involves producing high-quality analytical outputs that help stakeholders act quickly and confidently.
What you will do
You will work with operational teams, Defence stakeholders, and national agencies to share intelligence safely and effectively. Your focus will be on identifying threats, gaps, patterns, and trends, and converting raw information into clear assessments that support decisions on priorities, resources, and operational activity.
You will also prepare concise verbal and written briefings, contribute to collection planning, and support the use of analytical material in legal proceedings when needed. The role requires consistent adherence to legal requirements, professional standards, and internal guidance.
Key accountabilities
- Define and interpret stakeholder needs so intelligence outputs match operational requirements.
- Build and sustain internal and external relationships to enable appropriate sharing of data, information, and analysis.
- Gather and assess information to help shape collection plans and analytical products.
- Carry out analysis at strategic, tactical, and operational levels using suitable methods and tools.
- Identify patterns, trends, intelligence gaps, threats, risks, and harm, then make practical recommendations.
- Deliver briefings and presentations that are clear, evidence-based, and suitable for senior audiences, including court use when required.
- Work within all relevant legal frameworks, policies, principles, and guidance.
Experience and background
The ideal candidate will already have experience in an intelligence, analytical, investigative, policing, military, government, or similar environment. You should be comfortable working with complex datasets, producing structured intelligence assessments, and supporting investigations or operational work with actionable insight.
You will need to manage multiple priorities, meet demanding deadlines, and work confidently with a range of stakeholders such as operational officers, investigators, and partner organisations.
Required qualifications and capabilities
You must either already hold, or be willing to gain, formal intelligence analysis training. Suitable examples include National Intelligence Analysis Training (NIAT), Government Intelligence Analyst Training (GIAT), Defence Intelligence Analyst Module (DIAM), New Analyst Programme (NAP), Intelligence Analyst Level 4 Apprenticeship, or the Forensic Analytics Intelligence Analyst course.
Experience or qualification as an IPP Intelligence Analyst is also required or must be achieved.
For this Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Analyst post, you must also hold, or be willing to obtain, NCIA Core, NSIM Assessor, and completion of the CT Pathway.
Clearance and checks
The successful candidate will need Developed Vetting (DV) clearance and, after DV is granted, additional internal checks will also be carried out.
Working arrangements
This post is based on site at HMNB Clyde in Faslane, Helensburgh, Scotland. Some roles may allow a hybrid pattern where business needs permit, but office-based staff are expected to spend at least 60% of their working time in the office, subject to site capacity and any workplace adjustments. Travel to other MOD sites or official business locations counts towards office attendance.
The role does not include relocation expenses. External recruits joining the MOD for the first time in Civil Service employment will be subject to a six-month probation period. Interview travel costs will not be reimbursed.
Pay and benefits
The salary for this post is £37,720. The Ministry of Defence also contributes £10,927 towards membership of the Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme, and the employer pension contribution rate is 28.97%.
- Role-specific learning and development support
