About the role
The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences (USAHS) is hiring a full-time core faculty member for its nursing programs. The university’s mission is to develop healthcare professionals through innovative, individualized, and high-quality classroom, clinical, and distance education.
This role focuses on teaching in one or more of the following areas: the Master of Science in Nursing program, Family Nurse Practitioner specialty courses, Psychiatric-Mental Health specialty courses, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
Key duties
- Deliver courses using online tools and digital learning resources, while giving clear, constructive, and timely feedback.
- Create an online learning experience that is engaging, demanding, and grounded in evidence-based teaching methods.
- Use assessment data to strengthen instruction and improve curriculum, and contribute to quality improvement work aligned with program and institutional objectives.
- Follow all faculty expectations and uphold master’s- and doctoral-level academic standards.
- Support a strong culture of academic integrity, assessment, and high-quality doctoral teaching and learning.
- Teach three to four assigned courses or sections each trimester as outlined in university faculty expectations and employee handbook guidelines.
- Oversee scholarly projects and practicum learning experiences.
- Take part in residency activities when assigned, which may involve travel.
- Develop and implement an approved scholarship and faculty development plan that meets accreditation and university standards.
- Maintain current clinical knowledge, evidence base, and professional certification/licensure requirements.
- Share scholarly output in line with university policy and accreditation expectations.
- Show ongoing scholarly growth through research, written work, scholarly inquiry, and presentations at state, national, and international professional events, with a minimum of one presentation each year.
- Serve on program and university committees as assigned.
- Participate actively in professional associations.
- Represent the university in community and professional activities.
- Use approved release time for activities that benefit the program, such as clinical practice, consultation, advanced degree work, research, or service.
- Contribute to university governance, curriculum planning, and institutional growth activities.
- Serve on at least two to three committees, depending on requirements, and attend assigned university functions.
- Carry out course coordinator and lead instructor responsibilities when assigned, and work cooperatively with the team.
- Advise students on academic, professional, and personal matters and refer them to other resources when needed.
- Handle additional administrative duties as assigned.
- Complete an annual self-review, set goals with the program director, and participate in faculty development opportunities.
- Model professional academic behavior and follow the relevant discipline-specific code of ethics.
- Represent and reinforce the university’s core values.
- Participate in interprofessional collaboration activities.
- Follow and apply student, faculty, and university policies and procedures.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the program director.

Licensing and certification
Faculty members must hold appropriate credentials, an earned degree from an accredited institution, and be licensed as a Registered Nurse and/or Advanced Practice Registered Nurse where applicable. They must keep all licenses and certifications current to remain eligible to teach at the university. Additional state licensure may be required. Faculty are also expected to stay up to date with nursing practice and education by reviewing articles, journals, and presentations. If involved in research, the faculty member may publish and acknowledge the university.
Travel
Some travel may be needed for residencies, faculty meetings, or immersions.
Education and experience
- A terminal nursing degree such as a PhD or DNP is required.
- An active, unrestricted RN license in the home state and eligibility for licensure in all 50 states are required.
- Current national certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) is required.
- An APRN license in the home state, and in the states where students live if required, is needed.
- The candidate should have a strong record of academic and professional contributions to nursing, including practice and teaching.
- Teaching experience is required; doctoral-level teaching experience is preferred.
- Rank at hiring will depend on years of teaching experience, publications, scholarship, and committee service.
- Experience teaching advanced practice nursing, especially in the PMHNP role, is required if assigned to PMHNP coursework.
- Experience with distance learning is preferred.
Work environment
The role is mainly carried out in a standard office setting and may involve moderate noise. It requires use of a personal computer for six to eight hours each day and includes typical office-related physical activities such as walking, standing, and communicating.
Compensation
Hiring ranges in St. Augustine are as follows: Affiliated/Instructor rank: $59,758 to $107,565; Assistant Professor rank: $68,722 to $123,722; Associate Professor rank: $79,030 to $142,280; Professor rank: $88,923 to $163,622.
