Overview

LightFeather is hiring a Copy Cataloger to support the Library Directorate at the National Defense University in Washington, DC. The role sits within a collaborative academic environment focused on preparing joint warfighters and national security leaders through research, rigorous study, and service to national defense.

In this position, you will help keep library services running smoothly by supporting patrons, handling circulation tasks, assisting with cataloging and technical services, and contributing to collection and resource management.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Washington, DC.

Work Location

On-site, five days per week in Washington, DC, specifically at Fort McNair.

Clearance / Citizenship Requirement

U.S. citizenship is mandatory because of federal contract requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support circulation and material-processing workflows.
  • Take part in day-to-day library functions, including use of the integrated library system, cataloging, processing, interlibrary loan support, and collection development.
  • Assist with maintaining electronic resources and library-managed websites.
  • Stay informed about developments in library science, information services, and related technology.
  • Carry out other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and current enrollment toward a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • At least three years of experience in a public, academic, or special library environment.
  • Hands-on experience using an integrated library system.
  • Background in both original and copy cataloging, along with authority control.
  • Working knowledge of information technologies, including internet research, online database searching, and library software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools.
  • Strong eye for detail and the ability to organize, rank, and manage tasks efficiently.
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues and approach problems creatively.
  • Strong customer service mindset and comfort working with the public.
  • Ability to work effectively both on your own and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to work on-site five days a week at Fort McNair in Washington, DC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Prior experience in an academic or special library setting.
  • Experience with SirsiDynix Symphony.
  • Familiarity with MARC, LC Subject Headings, LC Classification Schedules, and AACR2.
  • Experience using OCLC and its cataloging tools.
  • Exposure to the Springshare Suite, especially LibGuides, LibAnswers, and LibChat.
