Role Overview

Simbe seeks its inaugural Controller to establish and expand the accounting department as the organization scales. This is a hands-on position where you will quickly familiarize yourself with the current accounting activities and external accounting partnerships, identify immediate improvements, and develop robust accounting systems, policies, and controls to support enterprise growth, regular audits, and early international expansion.

This role is ideal for a builder who will design and implement foundational accounting operations closely collaborating with the finance team, progressively assuming greater accountability as the function matures.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly financial close process, starting with direct involvement and driving it towards a 5-7 day close cycle as systems and ownership evolve.
• Supervise reconciliations and technical accounting; act as the main liaison for external audits including preparation of PBC lists, workpapers, and auditor communications.
• Develop and implement internal controls appropriate for Simbe’s scale and maturity.
• Collaborate with Finance Director and FP&A teams supporting forecasting processes utilizing FP&A tools such as Planful.
• Oversee accounts receivable and collections operations to ensure efficient invoicing, cash application, and collection cycles aligned with growing enterprise volumes.
• Manage ongoing relationships with external tax and audit vendors, including transitions as company scales.
• Handle reporting and ensure compliance with lender covenants related to existing debt facilities.

Required Qualifications

• Over 10 years of progressive accounting experience advancing through leadership roles (Accounting Manager, Senior Manager, Director, Controller/Assistant Controller).
• Prior Controller or Assistant Controller experience, preferably having built or managed accounting functions at smaller or early-stage firms.
• Background in hardware, SaaS/subscription, or hardware-as-a-service industries.
• Exposure to and understanding of mature, enterprise-scale accounting operations.
• Demonstrated ability to design accounting processes from the ground up.
• Experienced in audits, particularly in early-stage or rapidly growing companies.
• Proficient in systems including QuickBooks Online (or equivalent GL), Planful or similar FP&A platforms, Bill.com, Avalara, and payroll/PEO software.
• Hands-on use of AI tools to enhance closing, reconciliation, or reporting functions.
• Strong communication skills with comfort in presenting to executive leadership and board members.
• Experience working at venture-backed or high-growth organizations.
• Familiarity with multi-entity and international accounting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
• Experience with Big 4 or public accounting firms.
