Overview

This permanent role involves working 75 hours every two weeks. The position is within the Yukon Government's Community Services department, which is known for its diversity and commitment to empowering Yukon communities through 18 specialized branches. Community Services focuses on creating vibrant, healthy, and sustainable communities by providing essential resources and support.

Branch Responsibilities

The Community Operations branch oversees 12 solid waste facilities and manages 13 recycling depots throughout Yukon. It aims to implement an environmentally and financially responsible regional solid waste model, collaborating with municipalities, the Association of Yukon Communities, and government officials. Additionally, this branch operates drinking water treatment plants in unincorporated areas, manages water delivery, oversees 9 wastewater treatment plants, and supervises wastewater hauling in Old Crow.

Position Summary

The Community Operations Supervisor reports to the Waste & Recycling Manager and is responsible for daily operations, maintenance, site and program management, and administration of municipal services. These services include solid waste disposal, recycling, composting, mosquito control, and related programs servicing incorporated communities and rural areas across Yukon.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience in contract management and supervision.
  • Proven ability in program delivery and project management.
  • Experience engaging with public and government stakeholders is advantageous.
  • Experience administering community programs is a plus.
  • Knowledge of solid waste or recycling operations at municipal or higher levels is beneficial.
  • Equivalent education, training, or experience may also be considered.
